it totally depends. define what you mean by the word 'fine'...
my teacher told us one of her students got a U because they didn't turn up whereas someone else got their mock/predicted grade (which happened to be an A) because they were ill.

I mean as in like...a financial incurrence.

I'd advise that you don't. It is the school's policy to chase up candidate's absenses. If sick, this needs to be followed up by a doctor's note.

Your school may ask you to pay for the cost of the paper, but there is no other charge.

Why do people ask these questions on forums when there are officials at school?

Right now I am not at school.
My exam is very early in the morning.
I was kind of hoping someone would be able to give me a definitive answer..

Your school may choose to invoice you, and withhold any other results (or similar) until you pay. You may also not receive a reference or get into the sixth form if appropriate. But they can't issue a fine in the official sense

What kind of amount do you think that'd be?
I don't think there is, actually.
If you miss an exam for illness (for which you must get a doctor's note and present it at the very latest, the day after the examination), then your school cannot charge you. You will likely recieve a grade based on previous examinations for that subject, or your teachers will have to provide evidence (i.e. mock exams) for which grade your should recieve.

However, if you miss an exam for any other reason, then you will be held responsible. You will got a 0 (U) for the exam, and it depends on your school's policy on whether or not you have to pay for the exam.

No one here can say, it completely depends on your school.

I can tell you that for my college, if you:
1) Have <80% attendance for that subject.
2) Fail to achieve an E in coursework/practical assessments.
3) Fail to contribute or show any basic understanding of the subject.
4) Miss the exam.

You have to pay for the exam.

However, at my school where I did GCSEs, we weren't expected to pay for the exam if we missed it.

I guess I'll just have to call up my school tomorrow morning to find out.
Once again thanks ^_^
