UEA vs. Sussex and is Norwich boring?

Hello

I'm at a bit of a loose end. I am going to study envi sci next year at either UEA or Sussex. Having been to both i can say i was imprssed with both but is in different ways. I absolutely love brighton and it really and i feel really comfortable when i was there. They both seem similar however for the subject i want to do uea is top in the country! sussex's course seemed ok but lacked alot of the optional modules i wanted to do which were availible at uea. I have a particular interest in the chemistry side of the degree and sussex seemed to lack in that area. So the dilema is go to the better uni and study the better course or go to the uni i absolutely love and study the ok course. Norwich just seemed very dull and alot of the social life seems very campus centred ( the lcr for example). I just feel it would be nice to be able to escape uni and have a nice city ( like brighton is ) to go out in. I am not really a fan of big clubs and rather enjoy live music and i know the campus at uea is good for that but it doen't seem the same as going into the city and seeing bands! i really really can't decide! i undersatnd i am posting this in a uea forum so your going to be understandably slightly biased but i would appreciate any advice!

there are other music venues in norwich which are tied to the UEA, the Waterfront and the Arts Centre.
Plus norwich isnt all that dull, plenty of different bars and clubs hidden within the streets.
UEA also has many links with local enviro science companies which is one benefit of being in Norfolk and surrounded by fields!
Also Norfolk is the UKs driest county and we do have the Norwich puppet man, so its your call

Norwich and UEA are no way boring! There are many places to go in the city, we may not be near right next to a beach but hey ho! Seriously, the LCR is awesome! You know that most of your friends are going to be there and I've found I've made many friends with people just through meeting and talking randomly in the LCR! UEA UEA UEA!!

Im having the same problem! Ive put UEA as my firm though and sussex as my insurance...

Norwich is a lovely city, clean, friendly, modern, people who come here tend to end up staying. I never find I'm bored either. The UEA bar is awesome to, and the LCR on top of it rocks too, I always used to visit my bro and he had such a blast.
Norwich is pretty much unbeaten in terms of pubs, it has like a million. And live music is pretty common tooo. Quite a lot of big bands play there.

It has the only pub to ever win the CAMRA national pub of the year award, twice.

Is that the King's Head? Apparently quite popular with some of our academics (specifically the mathmos).

Actually a study last year showed that the University of Sussex was the least rained upon university in the country!
UEA is brilliant, and Norwich is even better. Honestly, go to UEA - you'll have an amazing time, meet brilliant people and live in a gorgeous city that you'll just keep discovering more of throughout your course.

I'm from Norwich and have 20-30 friends who went to UEA who stayed afterwards because they loved Norwich.

DO IT!
Also, music venue-wise, there's loads on offer. What kind of music are you into? There's a whole unadvertised section of Norwich that has loads of bars, cafes and boutique-style shops which are all brilliant, and in that same area, there's a collection of small music venues where you see upcoming artists play when they're touring. It's in the city centre.

My favourites are:
Norwich Arts Centre
The Bicycle Shop
The Birdcage
Norwich Playhouse and its bar

Hope that helps! Come and spend a night in the city and see. PM me if you need a tour guide.
I'm typing this from Sussex uni right now, came up to see my friend. Really don't like what I've seen of the uni and the people don't seem very friendly. UEA seems like a much better place in general. Though my dislike for Sussex may just be because my friend's filthy flat has overshadowed the amazingness of Brighton? Have to say, the Sainsburys is pretty cool- they have a travelator and a really good freefrom range but from what I've seen so far (the campus, the people and accommodation) I wouldn't go there. Just my view...

In my second year of study at Norwich and I can confirm there's plenty going on here  I have a friend at Sussex though who never seems to stop partying... Maybe too much going on in Brighton :P
Norwich is one of my favourite cities in the UK.
UEA is not a boring university.

On campus, we have the LCR, Pub/Blue Bar, hosting live gigs with many famous names and various pub-based quizzes, events, dress up nights, all with reasonably priced drinks.

Off campus however, Norwich really does shine. It has the most pubs per square mile in England, and offers the BEST pubs in the whole of England. Take the Fat Cat for example, which won pub of the year for two years running.
With clubs, you have Prince of Wales Road, which gets very busy especially as the week comes to an end. Mercy/Pure/Optic offers the traditional mainstream club, but there are also much classier clubs such as the newly re-opened Lola Lo's, bringing a Tiki style beach themed club.
Theres also new clubs opening soon such as Project near Riverside complex who are having Professor Green, Greg James etc on opening week.
There is also plenty of excellent bars to go to, some which are open until 6am!

There is plenty to do. I know Brighton has amazing nightlife, but honestly, don't compromise your course choice for nightlife. In this economy you need the best grades possible, and with ENV being top in the UK, its worth coming here

I love the Bicycle Shop, probably my favourite little place in Norwich. The workshop is nice also.

I have lived in Norwich (on Earlham Road, so fairly near UEA). Norwich is not a boring city! Being far from other places is actually a good thing; it has a great range of shops, the nightlife is good if you go to the right places and it is not too far from London to go see more exciting things. They also have some great live performances, have seen some awesome bands at the LCR.
I lived in London for a little while and it made me realise how totally awesome Norwich is.

Hello all.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but anyway, I'll just as 'cos I seriously need advice and yours are highly appreciated.

I received 2 offers to study MSc Marketing at UEA and Sussex. In terms of course content, I think Sussex focuses more on Marketing while in UEA, I will learn about other aspects of business, such as People in Organisations: Managing Change or Information Systems and Operations besides Marketing. Do you think it's important to read Marketing at a CIM-accredited institution?

In terms or living expenses, do you happen to know if Brighton is much more costly than Norwich?

And in terms of reputation and career prospects, is Norwich Business School or Sussex better?

Thank you very much.
