before joining this forum, i had the strong feeling that most students would claim to be left-wing, as this seems to be the general case.

however, mainly through the "anyone going to london on thursday..." thread, it now appears most of the users on ehre are in fact right-wing, to varying degrees.

to get a clearer view on the subject i invite you to a simple poll:

++do you consider yourself left or right, central or dont care.++

i mean this in no way to be a dig at right-wingers OR left-wingers, i just thought i'd see the greater voice.

Thanx! el borish

I am quite anti-Europe, would vote the Tories or Uk Independance...do not really agree with Socialism and contray to popular myth, I think Capitalism has longer-term benefits for everybody, albeit unequally. I see Socialism as a good idealogy, which sadly would never work...Animal farm always springs to mind

i wudnt say i was totally left wing...but more left wing than right wing. I'll tell you something though, since I've been studying Franco in Spanish lessons, its made me take a whole new look on right wing "policies" (for want of a better word!)

very true, and well-observed, but i just wanted to keep it simple, not to cause confusion or fractioning.

have you read Paul Preston's biograpghy on Franco, if not i would. I found it such an eye opener. It's amazing how in general we never learn anything about Franco in history lessons but he was such a brutal man and was a dictator for almost 40 years. I did my history long study on the civil war in Spain and for ages afterwards i would start ranting about it at any opportunity.

In answer to the first question.... left, i think doing history definately shaped my views

Overall i'm probably about in the middle (whatever that is referred to as) but tend to lean towards the left on some of the bigger issues.

Why is leftism always the reserve of the inteligentsia......
all animals should not drink alcohol
..then the pigs drink it and mysteriously the sign is changed to
All animals should not drink alcohol in excess
...Diane Abbot...need I say any more?
That book is possibly one of my favourite books

yes. although i rty not to follow anyhting blindly, but weigh things up. i think both sides, left and right, let themselves fall into the trap of thinking "i am left - i must think this" for example.

i try not to let it cloud my judgement, rather instruct it.
