Lol. Well I was in Melbourne, seeing family over our summer break and was in the city one day with some friends, and these Americans, carrying Star Bucks coffee cups, came up to us and asked for directions to the Hard Rock Cafe

It's like, not that Melbourne's renowned for their restaurants or anything

One of my neighbours was sitting in a cafe when this typical American tourist was directed towards him and waddled over. After a bit of a conversation where the American continually frustrates my neighbour by being arrogant and mentioning terms like Lei-Cess-Ter-Shire and You-Rope, the American goes 'I like yer accent - you speak English very well', to which my neighbour replied: 'No, we speak it properly, whereas you just speak it very badly'

I live in Leicester, so it does my head in when people pronounce it wrong. I like your neighbour

Just to break all the debate about the english language, I thought I'd recount a short tale.

I have met many Americans (part of having lived there I guess...) and feel content to have the general opinion that I don't tend to like them. However, to bastardise the ever famous phrase "people are stupid, a person is intelligent", "Americans are a pain, any one American is a decent person".

When I was in halls during the first year of my undergrad degree, half of my corridor was given over to the transient Americans who filtered through on a termly basis. Each of them was very pleasant company. One however, fit the stereotypical loud-mouthed-in-your-face-hear-their-conversation-across-the-country types. Over Christmas she went touring Europe, and one of the first things she said when she came back, and I think, the best phrase I've ever heard from an American, was:
'Americans are SO(!) loud and annoying!'
(or words very much to that effect). Couldn't have come from a better mouth.

although don't you feel that we tend to just back up what the Americans do in terms of their foreign policy?

Have you seen Team America btw? that is a hilarious film

Or Churchill: The Hollywood Years :p:

2. say stupid thing
3. think they're bigger and better then everyone else
4. Put their nose into everyone elses business

Most of the time then

Have you guys heard about Brazil rejecting millions of dollars worth of aid to wipe out AIDS in Brazil? They wouldn't accept it because they'd have to promote no sex before marrige instead of promoting protected sex and education, they'd also have to ban prostitues and tons of other crap Bush wanted
