Hi there,

Could someone please explain how 187.5 is the answer to QUESTION 1) C) II) ??

...I'd really appreciate it; reps. on offer.

Tbh, without a hard copy of the paper you can't really so this question coz you need to measure the diameter of the image with ruler

Magification = size of image/ size of object

Both have to be in the same units too

Well it's in pdf format. So... let the size of the page = 100%

Anyhow, if you want the measurements. I got, length of the hiv diagram to be 67mm. The length of the scalebar = 17mm.

Erm does that help?

The pixels might be different. Is there a mark scheme available so I can actually get the correct figure, coz I don't want to give you the wrong advice

Ok from MS, HIV virus = 80 nm

so 15/80 x 1000 = 187.5

or 15,000/80 = 187.5

Theres a convertion into micrometres from nm

I'm assuming, with a hard copy, the diameter of the virus = 4 of the scale bars, with is totaled to 80nm

Then for micrometres into nm, its 15 x 1000

Ohhhhhh..

68mm/17mm = 4mm

Therefore...4 x 20 = 80

and so 15000 / 80 = 187.5

This is a difficult one, this is the exact paper I took 1st time too, got a C in it

Warning, the grade boundries are so low for this one lol

Hi Know_your_enemy,

With your Mag question, what formula you are using is Magnification=IMAGE/object.

The scale shows 25um measuring the scale with MM ruler it is 35mm, I think not got a paper, using computer pdf.

Now it's 35mm (above) 25.

you need to x 35 by a 1000 = 35000/25=1400 magnification by my measurement.

Thats the right answer according to MS, I was trying to find the measurement earler coz I had no ruler or paper version

Who's doing AQA Unit 1here then on the 1st June? Bit unaware of what past materials are best other than the specimen.

I think OP is on AQA, but that looked like human biology when I looked at the paper, the rest of us are OCR

I'm only doing A2 papers in june
