Well, yes, it is.

Firstly, you can put reserves on. If these reserve prices aren't met, your item simply doesn't sell and you get to keep it.

Secondly, you don't pay the postage.

Thirdly, if your item doesn't sell, you get to relist it again for free if you do it within a set period of time (like 14 days).

It depends what stuff you have. The later you leave second hand stuff to sell, the more it loses its value. People want new stuff, and for as cheap as possible.

If you are in serious need of money then it's probably worth it.

I sold a book through Amazon Marketplace the other day.

The buyer paid £5.30 including PnP for it, and of that I got about £1.50 to keep for myself.

I can't help but feel a little robbed.

I've made about £50 on ebay selling old clothes I don't wear anymore over the past week. One dress that I paid £40 for only got £7.50 which was a bit disappointing but better than nothing if I'm not going to wear it again!

Just put a starting bid of the absolute minimum you would sell it for.

Well I made an eBay account and put up some books for sale.

If it sells even for the £0.99 starting price I'll get a better deal than I would off Amazon...

You say you have an old Gamecube? If you still have a bunch of games, you could make a killing if they're rare enough. I've sold two or three for over £25 each.
