The Student Room Group

Told my parents tonight...

Yeah, so over dinner, I just felt it was the right time. Its been building up inside of me for ages, and I knew I couldn't hold the truth any longer. In fact, I was inspired by the bravery many TSR'ers have shown on here over the last months. So, I came out as straight. Luckily they have been fairly understanding, though I think my dad feels a bit awkward and possibly disappointed as all his mates have gay sons. I'm sure he'll come round though.
Good on ya mate  Takes a lot of bravery and keeping it inside has worse consequences than some know. I've been there. :tsr:

Im sorry but you can't "come out" as straight. Society expects people to be straight; sexuality only becomes an issue when people have sexual leanings towards the same sex! cheesecakebobby your point is flawed, and if ur joking about, you have a bizarre sense of humour.

Oh lighten up.

Yeah, I agree. Seems very odd. He's either being sarcastic or just... silly.
I don't think it's very funny...

It takes a lot of courage for someone to come out as gay, and straight people have no idea how difficult it is, or how it feels. People like you just make it even harder for gay people to come out, because they're afraid of being ridiculed, or shunned by their friends and family. We should be making it easier for gay people to find acceptance, not harder.

Shame on you.

But it's not that funny when you take it from my point of view - someone who has struggled to tell their friends and is dreading telling their parents.

Perhaps I'm different to you then. In the same situation I would find a parody an amusing relief.
I have great respect for gay people who come out. So much in fact, I followed their example.

Can I ask why do people need to come out, I am myself, but I don't tell people unless asked
