Dear Emma Ashley or anyone on this thread,
What if the COA box is crossed on the bottom RHS of the Driving Test Report under "Licence rec'd" - What does COA stand for and who should be sending off for the full driving licence in this instance - myself or the examiner?
Many thanks,
Pigletto
I don't think anyone's mentioned the insurance query, but YES, you need to tell them. Don't be surprised if you are asked for an additional premium either, as just because you have passed doesn't mean today you are any better a driver than you were yesterday, and now you are allowed to drive alone, without experienced accompaniment.

Just to point out that the certificate is not a legal document and the police are unlikely to take it as concrete proof of entitlement to drive.

Emma

COA stands for Change of Address, the examiner should ask you to fill in your new address on the paper counterpart and then send it off for you - however, I'm not 100% sure about this - if it applies the examiner will explain what happens to you.

yes im in the same situation. i passed my test but my examiner let me send for my licence myself. do i have to send my pass certificate with my provisional licence and counterpart? do i also need to send my driver report as well? and what is are the eight numbers in the box in the top and bottom in the left hand side of the pass certificate? is that my pass number or is just a certificate number?

Yes what you need to do is at the front of the pass certificate it will say applicants decleration only to be completed if sending to the DVLA, so all you have to do is sign and date under where it says that and then send the pass certificate to DVLA with both parts of your licence so thats the paper counter part and the card, you dont need to send anything else. Dont worry about the eight numbers on the pass certificate they are just for the examiner.

Yes it means change of address, at the start of the test the examiner will ask to see your licence and then say is the address still the same on your licence and you say yes or no, if you say no then he will ask you to fill out your new address on the paper counterpart and he will put a cross in the COA box on the test report form, if you say yes then he leaves the COA box blank because you still live at the same address and nothing has changed.

Can I drive on the practical test pass certificate, or do I need to wait the 3 weeks for my licence to come back? Obv have to inform my insurance company i've passed.

I'm not entirely sure myself, and forgot to ask the examiner

Yes you can drive as soon as you have passed your test, you dont have to wait until your licence comes back from DVLA. Just keep your pass certificate handy just in case the police stop you, very unlikey that they will but if they do then you have it as proof that yes you have just passed your test and that you are legally allowed to drive. When I passed my test I came home and jumped streight in to my mums car and went for a long drive on my own, could not wait was so happy, but was a very strange feeling not to have anybody sat next to me telling me which way to go etc.

They should ask - sometimes they word it "would you like me to send it off for you?" or such - this is because there could be some situations where you need to send off for yourself. For example, I needed to apply for the provisional category C1, so instead of sending off my license for me, I sent off the provisional + Pass Certificate as well as the correct forms (D2 and D4) to save me having to wait for my full license to come back, then sending it off again.

Yeh years ago when I passed my test they did not offer that were the examiner sent it off for you because then you had to pay a fee of £9.00 to upgrade from a provisional licence to a full one, so you had no choice but to send it off with a cheque for £9.00 but then they scrapped it and now you dont have to pay any fee which is good and it is better that the examiner sends it off for you because you dont have to wait for it to get there ie post etc it is there instantly, sent electronically like a E-mail.

You cannot drive abroad until your full licence arrives. Foreign authorities (and car hire firms) will only accept a full driving licence.
Thanks for fast reply  so I just need to wait :frown:
I know I'm about a year late, but I couldn't find anywhere else to post this. Basically, I pass my test a few days ago and for some reason my examiner didn't take my photocard licence and didn't send off for my full licence. All he did was give me my certificate and almost left before I could ask him what the hell I was supposed to do now! He just mumbled something about going to the post office and walked away. So I went to the post office and have been filling out this form and was about to put my passport (as requested in the form) and the fee into the envelope and send it off until I came across this thread telling me otherwise. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what to send. My test certificate. Does that include the driving test report? And if I have to change my address, how do I go about doing that?

Also, in the bottom right corner of my driving test report where it says "License rec'd", my examiner left it blank. He didn't cross any of the three options. Is this just pure negligence on the side of my examiner? I'm starting to think he was just feeling particularly lazy on that day...

Hi, I sent my driving certificate of yesterday to DVLA after passing my test yesterday but I have just remembered I forgot to sign and date the certificate when I put it inside. I rang DVLA up and explained this and they said it should be fine they might have to just said it back for me to sign I was just wondering has this happened with anyone else before as I just worry about everything!😞

You don't get the pass certificate back. That's just so the DVLA can update the records - once you have your licence back with the new category that's all you need.
Hi
Hi I just passed my practical test. I send the certificate with my provisional driving license but I forgot to sign the certificate. Are they still gonna send me the full license or I will have to do it again?
