Need your opinion on accomodation!

Hi,

Listen I think I've identified which campus I'm willing to go to and what type of accomodation I want .Now since I have never seen any of these places perhaps you guys who have seen them could help me out ?

Campus:

-Broadgate Park
-Raleigh Park
-Sutton Bonington
-St. Peter’s Court

Tye of accomodation:

Standard
Standard Plus
Enhanced Standard Plus
Flat

I tihnk my parents might be willing to pay me a flat but I'll have to see about that.

To help you here are a few pointers:

- if I manage to come to nottingham I will be studying politics and american studies
-I'm really into sports so I'll need a good gym
-I really like to go out like having a drink or clubbing

Thanks for your help

hello!!!

why not university park? i think the gym and sports hall are on the uni park campus. drinks can be from any source (lol) but i think the student ark is quite cheap (so more drinks  ) clubs and pubs well there are loads in town to suit what you like. as for the flats and type of accommodation, well i have no clue about them. i have stayed with a friend's at raleigh park and its all new modern and straight lines  ...i, on the other hand am interested in olddd architecture. so they are not to my liking (therefore biased opinions)! sorry...not much help am afraid.

Broadgate Park is next to uni park, and is the closest self-catered accommodation to politics and American studies (which is on uni park). It's also the closest self catered accommodation to the uni gym. Broadgate has it's own bar, which isn't great, but it's only a 10 minute walk to the main bar on campus. There's pubs in Beeston, but the city's not far away for a decent night out..!

Raleigh Park is next to Jubilee Campus - a 20/30 minute walk or a free hopper bus journey away from uni park. It's closer to the city than Broadgate, but you don't have the advantage of being in a town, which Broadgate is. Also has its own bar, but the nearest gym is on uni park.

Sutton Bonnington is about 12 miles out of Nottingham and not really ideal unless your course is there (and yours isnt). It's in the countryside, very pretty, and there are free buses onto campus. But I don't think there's any self catered accommodation there and I can imagine it's hastle travelling that distance every day (although I know people who do..!)

Hope that helps

Ooooooh French food! - when I went French exchange in year 9 I LOVED the food! - all the rest of the English people were saying how crap the food is and I'm like - what on earth are you on about!!?? I actually ate this girl's dinner too cus she didn't like the pasta the French woman made while I couldn't get enough of it

English food is cool. I'd go I *think* Broadgate, maybe? - It's self-catered, it's right at the back near Florence Boot and Nightingale etc - and Nightingale is, of course, at Uni Park, right next to the sports centre  I think it'd be the closest you can get to the sports without having to stay at Uni Park  And Broadgate would mean you're close to Uni Park but not right there - so privacy and not too isolated, both achieved.

I've never seen any of the places myself - I've put my preference in halls down as Cripps or Flo Boot though, Uni Park

How have you made preferences, I was told that this isn't allowed and there's no space for it on the application form???

Plus a friend of mine at Nottingham now, told me that even if you do make a special request you probably won't get it because they try to spread us out evenly. Apparently you need to have some sort of medical problem to get a choice of hall!?!?

I think it's just reserved for people actually studying at Sutton Bonnington

Obviously first choice goes to people that need to be near where their lectures are for medical reasons...but I know someone who wrote that they wanted to be put with 3 of their best friends in Cripps (and gave their names), the other three all wrote the same, and they did all end up in Cripps together.

But it may have just been coincidence...

You simply email the accommadation manager person who's Lynne Walker, I think. They simply say I've made a note. And no, there's no guaruntee (I can't never spell this word ARGH!) - that you'll that your choice of halls - but no harm done in typing a 10-sec email, is there? Cus you never know!

Considering Rai (Euarne) got put into Hugh Stewart, I'm wondering if I'd be put there too, or Cripps - cus my lectures are based at QMC too  I'd imagine they'd probably take where your lectures are into consideration etc, you know? - and Cripps and Hugh Stewart are nearest to QMC at Uni Park. I'd prefer one of the 3 halls from Cripps, Hugh Stewart and Florence Boot - if I get one of those 3 I'm quite happy - although I only really want Flo Boot if I got a friend there!
Just to clarify, the Sutton Bonington campus is about 12 miles ish from Nottingham, (address is actually Loughborough!) Preference is given to people with courses based here, I think there are a few other people, but not many. There probably isn't much point applying for accom here unless you are here for most of your lectures, there are buses to UP, but they aren't very regular (about 1 hour at best) and worse at weekends. Having said all that, SB is a lovely campus, especially now its better weather. But you are probably better at UP is your course is there.

To be honest, I think cripps and hugh stew are probably the closest to most of the department buildings, apart from history and maybe trent, and even most of the arts subject lectures seem to be in law and social or maths and physics in the first year. (I've even had phil lectures in the qmc!) Even if you're based in the qmc, you might get sherwood or rutland, not exactly ideal if you're always running late!

Yeh I suppose the academic buildings are all clustered up at one end, eh? :p:

Apparently Rutland isn't very good

Rutland seemed ok to me. Not exactly pretty but nice enough on the inside.

But you might have to deal with people singing "Rutland takes it up the arse" outside your room at night, apparently

Why don't people like Rutland?

Well no doubt I'd love it anyway if I do end up there, but by the sounds of things Rutland isn't the best place ever...

irisng - some people think Rutland is disliked because it wins Karni every year. Some people think it's because they cheated at Karni one year. It's not that much of a problem if you do get put in Rutland apparently. Doesn't actually stop you making friends or anything - you just might have to put up with some friendly banter. xx

from what i hear apparently rutland cheat in the karni  if i am going to get lynched for saying this i wouldnt reveal any personal info just in case (although iris already did  )

I don't think people don't like it. It's just a running joke! I certainly don't mind rutlanders, I'm living with one next year!
