Nick Hornby, I've heard the name somewhere.

Anyway, has anyone read Equus? We're doing it in A-levels this year.

Iv heard about the book and iv been meaning to buy it. I taped the film of tv recently but I haven't seen it yet because I wanted to read the book first  I have been told though that its like Bridgete Jones for men so females won't enjoy it very much! Does that have any element of truth in it?
Er... yeah, I guess it is rather like Bridget Jones in many ways, but I hardly think that only men would enjoy it. Particularly as it deals with many emotions that men deny they ever feel, so... :p:

Definitely read it - and then watch it. This is one of the few cases where I watched the film first, not knowing that it was also a book. Both were very good, though, so no harm done! I only mention it because I reckon you're probably alright to watch the film first .

I read Equus when I was in year 8 and wrote a book review of it for my horrified teacher! The whole way through all the references to bestiality completely went over my head.

 Excellent! How is it, btw?

Our Lit teacher is really cool and eccentric. 'Equus has some bits in it. I have to warn you, It's not the kind of movie that you'd want to watch with your mum, or your dad, let alone you're English teacher.....but we're going to watch it anyway.'
I would like to read Dr Zhivago over the summer but I have heard that it is extremely difficult and very hard to understand!
Can anyone who's read it tell me their thoughts on the book please?

No idea, sorry!

I've just been re-reading some books here on holiday... Trudi Canavan's Black Magician trilogy. Very good stuff - but not the best books I've ever read. Entertaining enough while I sun-bathe! :p:

'Dr Zhigavo'? Never heard of. Is it a book or the author?

Where are you on holiday at? Sun isn't really what I'd like right now....
I've just started 'The Dispossessed' by Ursula le Guin. I'm meant to finish it and write a review by the 27th. :work:

I have read her Earthsea Quartet. How does it compare?
yo-less
well, this is sad.we cant be the only people who read?
does anyone have any sci-fi recomendations?

In terms of sci fi, i'd recommend Ray Bradbury (both his novels and short stories are terrific), Isaac Asimov (same) and after that Philip K. Dick. All are really good, smart sci fi writers

Lol... where did you find that post, Jamie?

Yo-less left TSR a long, long time ago.

I've just started it, it seems excellent. I wouldn't recommend it yet, obviously, but if you want to read an excellent first few pages, you could definitely try it. :yup:
