I don't think there is one for bachelors degrees. There might be one for masters though.

But i mean how do you get to become a professor or doctorate of something? What level of study do you need to reach? Masters degree? pHD?

To be allowed to call yourself Doctor you need a Phd.

Otherwise you're just plain ol'

*whatever your name is* (Bsc) or (Msci) etc.

Thats not what you asked though my dear . To be called a doctor you need a doctorate hence a phd or D.Phil (equivalent) standard.

Well, no, you need a doctorate, of which the Ph.D. is only one variety; although most of the traditional types of doctorate are purely honorary now, the D.C.L., D.Litt., LL.D., &c. Medical doctors in Britain often don't have doctorates at all, but only bachelor of medicine and surgery degrees.

A professor is someone who holds an established chair in a university, usually someone of the greatest seniority and eminence. It's not necessary to have a doctorate, one occasionally encounters a professor with only a master's degree or the like., though this is increasingly rare.

Hey!

I am aware that after certain degrees you get to call yourself a doctor or whatever or professor if you have a pHD right? So what do you get to call yourself if you have a bachelor of Science (BSc) degree or a master of geology degree for example? Let me know please!

You're a doctor after a PhD, not a professor.

There are no titles for holding a bachelor or masters qualification. You can use your 'letters' after your name though!

Dr Fluffy. BSc (hons), D.Phil (Oxon).

hah! only ~5 years worth of undergraduate studying... :p:

I take your point, in terms of seniority the MB ChBs are perhaps less than a DPhil level, but still, i wouldn't pursue one just for the ease & joy of it..

With an MB (and/or BS) (medical degree), you can obviously call yourself a doctor, but it doesn't rank as high as a D.Phil or PhD.....it's still a Dr. qualification however - you're still a doctor.

It's an honorary doctorate.
