Is she higher than you in the ballot to be able to get it? Bribe her. Or kidnap her on ballot night.
Mortoman
This might end up annoying a fair few people on the thread but I flukily got drawn out first out of everyone for the Oriel room ballot.

Haha, yes well some people get lucky ! I got drawn near the bottom of the room ballot for second year accommodation (last but 2) but nonetheless the room is reasonably good, if not quite up to the same standard as Mortoman's.

Oh and not all third years get turfed out to Cowley; some get to linger in the third year staircase. Some colleges, like Oriel, may have some some "flats" that they rent out to students, which are significantly cheaper than something you'd find out in Oxford itself.

RxB, not sure whether it's the O'Reilly Quad - I think it maybe the O'Brien Quad though. After a year living here you'd have thought one of us would know!

Hmm, the O'Something quad, anyway.

Which college are you at that you get to pick from such spectacular rooms  (honestly, towers  :p: ), all of our rooms are pretty standard, with the obvious en-suite, non en-suite divisions, but rooms in the same category are pretty much identical.

Univ. We have some *really* nice rooms - the whole of Helen's Court (two large rooms, king size beds), the tower and main quad are all amazing. Quite a few colleges have some great rooms at the top of the ballot.

no they do. The problem is arising where ppl are giving others grieve if they turn down their offer of a house; other people are panicking about where they're going to end up and everyones just incrediably stressed and keeps going "what if?"....let's wait until the official list of rooms left for us future 2nd years is released and then start planning. <sighs> It's so petty and almost political - I JUST WANT A ROOM NEAR SOME FRIENDS!!!! :frown:

That is totally unfair, if I'd have known about double-sized rooms or tower rooms then I'd have definately applied there :p: ! My choice largely came to accomodation and I chose a college with lots of en-suite but all the rooms are pretty identical  . We can always swop rooms if you like :p: !

Does your college do a group ballot system like a lot of other colleges? So that you ballot with your friends so that you can (most often) get rooms together in groups?
Anyhows, I thought lincoln was small enough that you'd probably end up living near one of your friends? I agree though that people shouldnt stress so much about it, despite coming the absolute last place in the ballot this year, I appear to have ended up with people I know I get along with...but then again, my plan was generally to try and form at least a small friendship with everyone i know, rather than get bogged down in one specific group.

Ultimately the only important feature of where you live next year is: How close is it to the boathouse :p:

Don't have to tell me  , I've got myself a nice room on the first floor (couldn't handle the ground floor after being so high up this year) to avoid them  .

But still a tower, you could pretend to be a wizard or something :p: !

Nope, sadly not. I'm 27th in the ballot and Simon (oxymoron) on here is 26th so we had originally planned to get rooms next to each other, with hopefully one of our other friends nearby (one of them is 21st and another 3rd, but the best rooms aren't generally together and we found 3 rooms where one goes usually to someone in the top 5 and the other two lower down, so we thought they'd be great). However, one of my friends is 71st and is understandably worried about not getting accomodation in the centre of Oxford but about 15-20mins out in Cowley which would require bus journeys every day, so now (depending on whether the room is still available after the current 2nd year's ballot last night) they were trying to get a small house right by Lincoln so that 2 of my friends who are low down the ballot can actually live in Oxford! However at the same time, other people are getting offended as they offered some of them the same choice but it was turned down and everyone's getting incrediably stressed and political over choosing rooms! I just want a reasonable room in the main college accomodation block (above the Mitre Pub) where hopefully I have some friends nearby, as this year I've been in a staircase where everyone keeps to themselves and it would be nice to be able to mingle a bit on a corridor. Ultimately though, I just want to get a good room as since I'm high up in the ballot I don't want to feel I've wasted my opportunity as next year I might not be so lucky!!!

To an extent yes, I'll always know my neighbours particularly as the main accomodation block that's left will house almost all the second years...it would just be nice to be close to some good friends as has actually happened to some of my mates this year (ie. several of them living in the same staircase etc), so you can just pop round easily when you need a hug etc.

Ultimately the only important feature of where you live next year is: How close is it to the boathouse :p:

....good idea...maybe I'll just go and live in the boathouse; might be less hassle and at least I'd get more sleep before outings! It even would mean I'd get ensuite facilities!!!

You see, we have a grand total of 2 rooms ensuite, out of 250. Which college are you at? If you chose on accommodation, Christ Church and Magdalen should have been at the top, they have by far the nicest rooms, though not sure about ensuite - they're old buildings. Univ's is the next best I've seen though.

Tower = private staircase.

Yes, being 3 floors up is a bit of a hassle, but it's *so* nice! Laura's going to be choosing it though :frown:
