Red face

Ok my very first post, read a lot here sounds good.

My problem is something thats annoying me so much over the years now just thought id try get some tips of people who have same/similar problems.

I have a lot of redness on my face / cheeks, ermm if i was to describe id say its like a burn / scar. People that have met me for the first time say they thought id been in some sort of accident

I've had bad acne and when i went to the doctors i got put on that benzol cream which diddnt really help , im on them oxytetercylne tablets now for months but its no different, i still get a lot of spots, its just my skin on the face looks sore / irritated and red. I've tried all i can think of. Im having dry skin in small places as well, and my neck feels sore and ichy  Everything i've used is for sensetive skin, even shaving gell.

Also im very gresy, i used to use face wipes a lot, then i read somewhere to only wash twice a day, so i tried that but im still greesy within 30mins of washing

Anyone else like this? Whats best for me to try? :tsr:

For redness I use anti-red makeup (it's green!)- but since you're a guy (I'm assuming so, since you mentioned shaving gel) you may not want to do that...
Rubbish advice. Sorry.

Try washing your face with a gentle soap rather than a wash. When i switched from clearasil to dove it made a huge difference. Is it just redness or acne? If its acne, definitley persist with 5% benzoyl peroxide but apply it generously, even if it makes u a bit red to start with. many ppl dont apply enough. Dont just dab it onto each spot, rub it in dammit !

hope that helps

EDIT: i think ive taken every pill in the book (bar ro-accutane) and thank god, my acne is almost gone . For me the erythromycin oral pills worked pretty well. And erythromycin topical is good as they give it to you ain a zinc solution which dries out areas. Howvere if you skin is dry u shud stick to creams not such solutions

EDIT EDIT: Also, learn to spell 'Camelot'

:frown: , well go back to using it then!! Try exfoliating with something for sensitive skin. There is an exfoliator by 'simple' which is ideal for removing dead skin etc.

I would say go back to your doc - don't bother with any over the counter rubbish!

It depends how much this bothers you, course I'm no expert but the way you describe it - it sounds a bit like rosacea also (you can this at the same time as having acne) it would explain all the redness, but to get proper treatment you need a diagnosis from your GP.

If your GP is non too helpful, then ask to be referred to a dermatologist, may seem a tad drastic but a friend of mine had a similar problems to yours and the dermatologist prescribed stuff that cleared it right up!

Hope that helps a bit!

PS - If you've been on the tetracycline for months with no effect then bin it - get something else.
PPS - Some topical treatments for acne can actually aggravate rosacea - making the redness worse (worth bearing in mind)

Yes i've read up a lot about it, its hard to describe. The last time i was at the doctors i just felt like he wasnt interested in what i was saying and he was trying to hurry onto the next person and dumped me with them tablets.

It does bother me a lot and made me extreamly self concious to the point i dont like going out and want to smash all the mirrors lol

Is there a 10% benzoyl?

My neck is lookin very sore atm, the redness on my face kinda looks like scare from previous spots maybe, i just dont know. Id really like someone to look at it and tell me the whats and the why's. But the doctor diddnt really sound bothered. I tried tellin him and he was just like "ah pain aint it"

sounds like eczema...
or something...
is it itchy?
i used to have a bit of it on my arms...
i have massive eczema even at this age. the doc might want to prescribe some kind of cream/emollient to keep the skin moisturised. but if inflammation perseveres, you'll need topical steroid treatments, such as hydrocortisone 1% (very weak), if that doesn't work, the doc might try bursts of more powerful steroids. That's the only way I can handle my inflammation. It might, of course, not be dermatitis.

Is it all weeping and hug amounts of redness and inflammation? That is propbably the most horrible thing I've ever been through (putting unanaesthetised circumcision to one side; that's in another league) it required weeks of antibiotics to tackle. PAinful during showers etc.

Ok, I'll stop fishing for sympathy now.

weeping, no, redness yes. It tends to get irritated after washing. My skin just feels weak and when i shave it goes all red, now theres like loads of little red marks and humps all over my neck, it itches like MAD and its hurting, also where it itches the most the skin gone peely. Its done this once b4.

Also my nose gone peely lol, and a bit under my eye where the skin is really red and discoloured the most.

Rest of me face looks redish and scared as well i just want to know whats making it red, why is it getting so greesy all the time and why is it going dry, peely and itchy on my neck.

Im sorry your having to put up with all this.

When you see your doc - insist on being referred to a dermatologist - they are specialists and in a much better position to diagnose and treat your problem - no disrespect to GPs but they aren't skin specialists, they just know a bit about everything! And don't let yourself be fobbed off again - it obviously affects you quite a bit.

btw - benzoyl peroxide creams can be really irritating and could make redness even worse - it also dries your skin out alot, which results in it producing more oil from your pores - hence the greasiness.

Hope you work it out.

Thanks, it does effect my confidence because its my face, its what everyone looks at. I would like to see a specalist and have them tell me the whats and whys.

I hope i get something to help controll it and make things better as well, it will boost my confidence sky high.
get a tan, my complexion is always better after being in the sun. Just don't burn!
