your brief is just a last min any questions. They will ask you a question like (one that was said to me) "what is hms ark royal" and i replied "an invincable class aircraft carrier" and they gave us sweets and invited us back to let them know how its all going on as your part of the family now and it was quite nice. Just think they have been processing you and assessing you for the last 6 months. So in there way they kinda get to know you and that your potential recruits i suppose.

Hi everyone,

AIB very soon and trying to piece the current deployment jigsaw together, would really help if someone could see if this is right and fill in the gaps. Everything seemed clear until they changed the Website completely and I started reading different articles about ships sailing off on various deployments

Here goes........

HMS Southampton is currently in the Carribean (just did big drugs bust) and is on its way back from duty as the APT south destroyer which its been on for last 5 months.

HMS Liverpool is the New APT south ship which is cruising down the West coast of Africa currently at the beginning of its patrol.

I am pretty confident Dumbarton Castle is protecting the sovereignty of the falklands whilst Endurance is happily breaking ice in the antarctic.

Nottingham has recently deployed to the Med as part of The SNMG 2 to police the area around the Suez canal and redsea looking for terrorists, smugglers etc.

Little confused about the Gulf......but The marines and RN from the maritime and riverine asssistance Support team are still mentoring the iraqi navy, marines and coastguard into protecting their own OPLATS

Type 23 frigate HMS Montrose is in the gulf as part of the UKs commitment to the region patrolling iraqi oilfields, doing maritime interdiction operations and contributing to the restructuring of Iraq etc etc

(How does CTF 58 fit into all this ??)

HMS St Albans just left for the gulf (is this to relieve Montrose ??) and what is HMS Lancaster doing in the red sea and Indian ocean? and Bulwark is up to something in the red sea as well?

and breathe.....

Any other interesting (accurate) input would be greatly appreciated.

I can't believe the staff are allowing you some spare time, it's all gone soft since my day, I'll have to give the instructors a call!
Good to hear you're enjoying Raleigh. Keep us posted about your experiences, it's important to hear it straight from the horses mouth rather than some leaflet from the careers office.

'it's all gone soft since my day'

Damn right. I hear they have washing machines now aswell at Raleigh. I had to hand wash everything including wight fronts which can be a bugger!!! Do you still have to do kit musters in the quadrangle if you **** up or run round in your boxers with your matress above your head singing ' naughty, naughty matress, please get off my back' when your late out of bed in the morning???

Washing machines? Where? No... hand washing still, we have dryiers though and we only get time off after doing are kit on a weekend. Hey guys just a quick question and would be grateful if anyone is able to give me an answer. If you train as a Warfare Officer what qualifications do you leave with? Do you get merchant navy tickets like Masters, Chief Officer, 1st Officer etc?

Thanks for any help.

Depends how far you go in your career. The RN now participates in the STCW scheme. You don't get full Merchant Navy tickets but you would be exempt from some of the requirements. I'll have a check through exactly what each level is equivalent to and get back to you.

Hey ladys n gents, another update,

Going into week five now, Passed my Naval Military Training, thoughs of you who know i got 30mm on the 25 meter range and got 37 hits out of 55 on the 100 meter range, how ever... it was very foggy and could only just make out the target which didnt help on the 100 meters. But i passed so thats all that matters, also last week did my PT "B" (Physical Training B test) which i passed on flying colours. Now week five is coming fast, Monday is the DO's kit inspection which im ******** myself, A: i like to win , B: Fail 3 times and im back classed. But i hope things go well... wish me luck shipmates.

Hello Ladys n Gents, going into week six now at Raleigh. Week five was a bit of bitch, having the kit muster on monday which i passed first time, completed my PTA which was the 1.5 mile run in 10.30secs. Seamanship now, learning bends and hitchs... but least i get to rest a bit after Dartmoor which wasnt hard any way. Been tired for about fours weeks though. But hey least its only three weeks to go now... or as i look at it, 2 weeks and 5 days.

Well ladys n gents iv done it... im back home after passing into the royal navy today, i can honestly say its been the best day of my life, it was a challenge but loved the reward. Anyone who is thinking of Joining the Royal Navy, do it. Off to Collingwood on mon, cant wait for phase two.

Anyone who is thinking of joining the Navy, consider it. Don't just jump onboard. Congrats, and good luck with the rest of your training. Ah - I got the Navy News yesterday, and had a quick browse through it; skimming the pics and titles mainly, because I was going out. To my surprise, I seen a girl who myself and J. Jackson (Team Wacko and Jacko) tag-teamed, was a funny moment, and I seen myself having a little giggle. This seems random, but the relevance is that she is based at HMS Collingwood.
