I changed from a BSc to MSc in the first week. It shouldn't be a problem.
People change from Geography to all sorts of wonderful things, so switching within the department will not be a problem. You might be able to hold off your decision until the end of first year so you won't have to make it straight away as a lot of the courses are the same - speak to your DoS (personal tutor) in freshers week and they'll tell you the deal.

thankyou!
even though the geog MA is a very high demand subject with more than 10 applicants per place whereas the geog BSc is very low demand? i thought it might not be possible

You'll be fine - essentially once you're "in" you can do whatever you want, it's just a case of speaking to your DoS (personal tutor) and getting the admin done. The hardest part about getting into Edinburgh is getting the offer in the first place, once you're here the degree system is amazingly flexible so even though you start off with your degree as Geography, you would be permitted to change it to something else such as Politics, History, Maths or anything you took the right course options for in the first two years. See my post which is sticked at the top of the page for more information on this. Basically, your degree is not set in stone until the end of 2nd year meaning you will be able to transfer between the Bsc and the MA quite easily. In first year geography you will take the same courses regardless of whether you end up doing MA or Bsc. I took one of the modules - human geography - it was really really interesting.

I changed from history to BSc Geography after a year, having not done any of the core geog modules. You don't really decide on BSc/MA til second year when you choose your honours options, anyway.
Hey, I really want to change from Economics and Politics to PPE. I'm way beyond the IB grade requirements, but after I mailed the university, they said that the grade threshold for PPE is higher than my grade. But having said that, the A-level results haven't come out yet, so do you think that there will be a few spaces left IF some people don't meet their conditions? I can always ask them during Welcome Week, but I really hope I get in.
