"Excuse me, I just wanted to enquire if you have any vacancies at the moment? OH! You do, here is my CV/do you have an application form?"

When I was looking, I went in a just asked if there were any jobs available, and if not do they have a waiting list I could be put on.

Of course, I was 15 at the time, so it was only part-time. You might have different circumstances. But the first part still stands I think.
I did it by phone.

"Hi, I was wondering if I could speak to someone who can advise me on job vacancies in your store/branch?"

Then just introduce myself to the manager, say I was currently in S6 at X school, and was interested in part time employment in their store.
I walk in, approach the receptionist/clerk/shop assistant, give them a lovely smile and a wink, and ask, 'What sexual act will it take for me to get a job?'

I now work at my local Tesco and I am real good friends with my Manager, Susan. :ahee:

Ok, so this may sound like a weird question to some people, but how do you go about asking a company (Hi, can you tell me) if there are any job vacancies available? I mean, you wouldn't just walked into a shop and say "gimme your job biatch"...so I'm curious...how do you word it?

You pretty much answered your own question

Just go to the chashier and ask to speak to the manager. Then ask the manager if there's any jobs or if you can have an application.

When I applied for my first job 8 years ago (yes the recruitment side of things have evolved to 'online only' application processes since then), I headed straight to the Customer Services desk and handed my CV to a very nice and friendly sales assistant. My previous manager was on duty at the time, gave me an informal chat and gave me the job on the spot!
