I've been having a discussion with my mother, who believes that you pronounce the word "tofu" as if it has an 'ff' digraph, rather than a single 'f', so i want to get peoples opinions from here.

Do you pronounce tofu as
1. Toe-fu
or 2. Toff-u?

Much appreciated =)

Well, its of japanese origin so they are equal in what part you stress.
So its not Toff-fu, its To-fu.

Tofu is a japanese word, which should actually be spelt "Toufu" and is pronounced "toh-fu"

Right, the correct version would be the one that is phonetically similar to the chinese word which it is derived from.
In chinese (mandarin), this would be pronouced to-fu. not tof-u.

Its "Toff-you"

As in "you're a toff"

As in "this coagulated soy milk product reflects your snobbery"

The Japanese Romaji for it is tōfu (with a long 'o'), so if we're being really pedantic we should also use a long O in English; that is, "toe-foo". As it happens, it doesn't matter how you pronounce it, because people will know what you're on about.
