For my GCSE's i got 3A's and 8B's. If I were to get 40 points in the IB would I have a chance at getting into an oxbridge university?

Don't know about IB but your GCSE's are OK. Bear in mind that most Oxbridge applicants will have better GCSEs than this.

The key to Oxbridge success is the interview performance. If you had to work hard to get these grades, it is unlikely you will have the flair they are looking for. On the other hand, if there was some reason that caused you to under-perform in your exams and you are able to explain this to them and then show a high level of ability at interview, you may be successful.

I know this is very late, but:
A*A*A*AAAABBC

AS:

AAAAA average across best 4 is 94%

In order to avoid being somewhat subjective, given that my best 4 are maths,FM,physics and chemistry . Would it be worth while for me to apply for engineering at cambridge?

Thanks

I achieved:

GCSEs: 9A8s, 2As
AS: 7As, average across top three most relevant subjects: 97% at time of applying. Additional AS at grade A obtained in A2 year.
A2: 5A*s, EPQ: A*

Given your results, it would definitely be worthwhile making an application to Cambridge. You have the perfect A level subject combination and a high enough UMS average. Of course, there is still your personal statement (which tbh I don't think Cambridge looks an awful lot at anyway...), SAQ, and interviews to go.

I don't think that Cambridge looks particularly closely at GCSEs, they seem much more interested in your AS results/ UMS, but you have mainly A*/As so should be fine (assuming the B/Cs aren't in maths/science...).

Remember, you have 4 other spaces on your UCAS form for 'safer' university choices - so make sure you pick those you would be just as happy to go to as getting an offer from Cambridge is not 100% guaranteed (unalike some other unis where they basically give offers to everyone with the required predicted grades and a half-decent personal statement).

Are you applying past-A2 results? I notice that you already know your AS UMS, but it is before results day... If so, Cambridge would be looking for equally good A2 results (A*A*A I believe is the standard offer?), but the good thing is your offer would be unconditional  (assuming your college doesn't decide to be evil and ask for STEP...)

What would you say my chances are with imperial college?

P.S. I am planning to study mechanical engineering at imperial or engineering at cambridge. What would my chances be at cambridge, thanks

I would say that as long as your predicted grades match or exceed their requirements you should have a good chance, it would definitely be worth applying to Imperial. There's a website (unistats?) where you can look up what percentage of applicants received offers - which could give you an idea of how likely you are to receive an offer.
As I mentioned before, you have the grades required for Cambridge (assuming from your UMS you'll be predicted A*A*A) - it just depends on how the interview goes

I was hoping to study History and German at Cambridge but my GCSES didn't turn out as well as I hope.
In short, I got 8s for English literature and Language, A* In history, A in Additional Science and Bs for the rest which was disappointing as I was meant to get an A* in German.....
I have heard people going to Cambridge even though they did not get the grade they wanted at GCSE but I how bad is my chance of getting in?

Your GCSEs althugh beow average aren't hugely important - the other aspects of your application including the HAA (History Admissions Assessment), interviews, predictions, submitted works, etc are more important.
