I don't suppose many will care (I also don't think you can really call Warwick "world famous" ). Those in the know are obviously aware of it, but it hardly has a real global brand does it? Not one of our universities have with the exception of Oxford and possibly Cambridge.

But I don't suppose many Coventry students really care. Same with any other city that has a pre-92 and post-92 (which is all major cities). There'll only be some mixing, some at Warwick will be snobby pricks, many will not be.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I know it's created a name for itself in Asia. But I just don't think it's world famous in the sense that Oxbridge or the US greats are. If you want to the average person on the street in this country then they'll have little idea of what Warwick university is, let alone abroad.

There's "ex-poly" snobbery everwhere, really. Some of it is good natured and some of it isn't. But, on the whole, people really don't care and more bothered with their own university or what students are like as people. Not be all tribal and partisan. Although I'm not a student at Warwick (or Coventry, for that matter) I wouldn't say Warwick's particularly snobby. No more that the other top unis. In fact, it strikes me as rather more varied (in terms of social class) and less pretentious than Oxbridge, London and Durham.

i had offers from warwick and cov but chose cov in the end
im sure there are times theres rivalry like varisty but good natured

Warwick and Cov unis really aren't that close. Warwick is really out of the way with Cov uni being nearer the city centre.
So unless you went out of your way, you don't feel as if you're right next to each other really.

You notice this especially when people don't live in halls, as Warwick students tend to live in either Leaminton Spa or areas Cov uni students either wouldn't or would have to go some to travel in.

Never had a problem with anyone from Warwick, and have even used their facilities on a number of occasions.

No-one really cares. We know Coventry is better :p:

Warwick and Cov are very different; we have a lot more vocational subjects (e.g. Accountancy, Fashion, Automotive Engineering) whereas they are better at traditional stuff. It's pretty much the same as every other "old" and "new" University conflict.

Although if you go clubbing, be prepared for chants against each other "who the **** are Warwick uuuuuuuuni..."

The one day Coventry hates Warwick? VARSITY DAY!!!!!!!!

U DECLINED WARWICK???? I mean ppl say they are both in totally different leagues .... Warwick students are also those who applied to Oxbridge mainly...i heard that warwick demands the highest level of commitment in all their courses an u have to study very..very...very hard just to pass...Coventry i heard is more flexbl and balanced with cousework and finals and their students arent under that much study stress...Is this true???

Reply 9

I doubt they care. Man Met students don't care about Manchester Uni, I doubt Salford or Bolton do either.

im sure deep down theres a feeling like...."urghhhhh!!!!"

In general, Warwick and Coventry students don't occupy the same space. As others have already said, Warwick's campus is on the outskirts of the city and many students commute from places like Leamington. Cov's students are primarily within 1 mile of the campus. I have respect for those doing a degree at Warwick; they've obviously worked hard to get there. I'm very happy with what I'm doing at Coventry, though... and I wouldn't exchange it for some general degree from a top flight uni like Warwick, if I'm honest.
