You're probably just bruised.

I’ve got this aching pain on my chest which I thought would gradually go away but is still there. Basically I accidentally walked into someone today and they kind of punched my chest; now every time I breathe heavily or touch my chest in anyway the pain “re-surfaces”. Will the pain go away?

Ooooh... pain in the chest... always dodgy. Personally, I'd expect it to be a bruise. I sometimes have pains in my chest though, mainly after doing strainy things like climbing.

If in any doubt at all see a doctor. Especially if you actually have difficulty breathing.
Ooh, yes. We can't have your smushed ribs poking you in the heart, right enough...not good at all.

probs bruised or muscle thing
I fell off my bike once and landed on the end of the handlebar. It really hurt and my Dad was like "you're fine, probably just cracked a rib". Sounds like a bit of a contradiction to me.
Anyways, now sometimes if I move wrong my rib kinda clicks slightly out of position while not painful its extremely uncomfortable.
I read a newspaper story about a boy who did the same thing as me only he managed to make a hole in his heart and nearly died...

Don't think that would've happened to you though. Probably just bruised as others have said, although I think the moral is; you can never be too careful.
Its very unlikely you would pierce your heart, but piercing the lung is a different matter.
anyway, in this case i would say it is simple bruising. I say 'simple' anyone that has had a bruise (ie everyone) will know it hurts to touch it - which is pretty much what is happeneing everytime you breath in.
that you tell us in the 1st line "aching pain" lets us know this is really nothing to get in a flap over.

Simple advice - Take some aspirin or ibuprofen (paracetemol not so good for this kind of pain) to relieve the pain somewhat. If you find yourself getting short of breath, dizzy, racing heart etc then by all means go to the docs/hospital. But this is an utter worst case scenario and 99.99% of people in your situation will be utterly fine.
