I will wear a shirt and trousers to my Cambridge interview. No tie, no suit (hell I have a test, how am I going to do that with a suit on?). And the shirt will not be white. Too informal?

Wear anything you want- it doesnt matter. Just remember, its better to be overdressed than underdressed, by this I mean dont go naked or anything. You probably wont give a favourable impression.

There was a post on this a while back. Though i wouldn't worry about trying to stand out - the interviewers are trying to jusge your abilities and aptitude for you subject - not your dress sense.

Yeah - that happened by last year at my economics, eveyone was really smart the first day, and the standard of dress really tailed off after that.

Mostly we just went around Oxford, I already knew it but most people just wanted to get an idea of where they might be staying for the next 3 years.

Um no idea it wasn't split into phases. The majority of interviews were on a thursday with a few on friday. Mine was early (3rd person to get interviewed), on the thursday.

What do you mean by phases? Is it a good sign to have an early interview? (as in early in the week)

i don't think that's true. it gives you less chance if there are other people from your school applying for the same college. my school made everyone apply to different colleges.

Some major public schools used to have traditions of sending candidates to a particular college (eg. Eton to Christ Church Ox, and King's Cam), but I think it has pretty much died out now.

But that's surely only true for people wanting to do the same subject?
