Ok - I have a question - how easy/difficult is it to get a 1st?

And, I keep getting asked about Honours but I have no idea what that is! Is Law at Keele an Honours degree?

from the people i know at keele i know 3 people who got a 1st in law this year, i'm not sure how many there were in total but if you go to the keele home page there is a bit at the bottom where you can go to all the degree results for this year.
to get a first in any subject you obviously have to work hard but a friend of mine recieved one in law and strll managed to have a reasonably healthy social life.

my understanding of honours is basically anything other than a pass is classed as an honours (although it may be above a third), in law at keele you can get a BA (Bachelor of Arts) in law will be if you do the full three years in both programmes (eg. law and politics) or you can get LLB (Bachelor of Laws) whic h means that in your final year you only study law.
the difference between the two is mainly for if you want a career in law, it gives you an exemption from a bridging course that you would have to do otherwise before going on to do the legal practise course or the bar vocational course. it means you have completed all the required modules for the law society and the bar council.

hope this helps

Hi i'm thinking of applying to Keele to do law for 2006 entry. I would like to know everything about the law apartment, how teaching is and what is required to do a law degree (and how different it is from A level). Also what sort of offers do they make if its another AAA university then i'm stuffed, because although my A level predictions are AAB I'm more likely to achieve ABB or BBB. It seems like i'm paniking here but would it be possible to get a good 2nd class degree (eith 2.1 or 2.2) if you can't achieve AAA??

Oh i'm hoping to apply to do law with history then specialise in law in the final year to be exempt from the CPE

Final thing, know this is the Keele sub forum but does any one know about the law exempting degree at Northumbria and if it is any good?

Thanks,

Danny

The law department at pretty friendly and law is one of the few schools that has it's own student support officer, the lecturers here are very good although some do have an innate ability to send you to sleep. you'll find if you do a dissertation that some of the books you read will be written by your lecturers. if you're interested in the lecturers if you go to the law department section of the website you can find out lots of info about them there.
At uni you study in a different way to A levels and in law especially you are taught differently, generally you'll have a two hour lecture once a week for each module and then a one hour seminar once a fortnight. so there is a lot of emphasis on personal study and what final mark you get depends on how much work you put in, if you work your arse of you can get a 2:1 or a first if you don't (if like me you get involved in lots of other things) you can still get a 2:2

Don't worry about grades i came through clearing with pretty rubbish grades and have just got a 2:2, most of the people i know who got 1sts or 2:1 didn't necessarily get AAA and probably didn't get AAB, i'm not sure about the requirements if you apply but through clearing in my year they seemed to be very flexible.

Hey emily i have got a conditional offer to study law at keele this sept but unsure if i will meet the grades for the offer. You said you got in through clearing to study law with lower grades. Do u think this will still be the case. i realli hope so . Well done on getting a 2:2!

i'm not sure, they might but i wouldn't rely on it too heavily but if you don't get the grades it's worth a try.
good luck on getting the grades you need though.

I am going to Keele in September to do law, can you tell me what a normal week would be like. Do you get wednesdays off? I am not sure whether to stay at home or live in.
Law at Keele=a joke. Honestly, why bother?

You clearly have too much time, why bother posting? Honestly, what a joke!

Keele has one of the highest employment rates after studetns graduate so that is why we bother. In answer to the other thread about over subscription, may I point out that in 'The Independent', it has had a pretty big UCAS clearing supplement everyday this week which goes to show that not 'every uni is oversubscribed'.

(as well as PIR-10012 Comparing politics today!) Sounds like i get every friday off though, which would be nice! Sorry to temporarily go off-thread, my apologies

I take IB and i have a prediction of 39. I have a conditional offer from Keele of 32 with a 4 in math and english. Math is my weakest subject its the only subject i was predicted a four. If i get high grades in all my classes (around 6 and 7) but i dont manage the 4 in math do you think they will consider me anyways? Im confident that i can make four in math...but Keele is my 'security' university so im kinda worried now.
I havn't got GCSE Mathematics or Science, but do have English and they let me in with BBC A Levels!
