My mate bought a K reg fiesta with 9 months MOT and 6 months tax for £250, he's done more than 1000 miles in it now. It runs perfectly, the radio dosn;t work but that is easily fixed. Its a 1.3, its very basic, it dosn't even have a glove box but its reliable and does the job its supposed to.

He did get his dads freind who is a machanic to check it before he bought it though.

I think its cheaper to buy localy, less fees. I am an ebay seller and I never buy anything from ebay becuase most things are so over priced.

They cost a lot to insure though and they are certainly not little.

306s are expensive for what they are.

Best bargain motors for £1k are stuff like old mondeos/405s/xantias to be honest.

Yeah Mondeo's offer stupid value the money, the thing about Mondeo's is that even the 1993 version can still compete with new cars in terms of the chasis and engine. Plus you get an airbag, electric windows, central locking etc as standard.

The reason my dad didn't buy a mondeo though is they are quite big, you need room to park it, the insurance cost more, and a new clutch is an engline out job on the mondeo.

My dad has a 1.6 Escort Zetec LX, it has all the extras you need, such as electric windows. The engine is very willing, my dad was doing 85mph uphill on the M62 yesterday and the engine didn't struggle at all.

Its been very reliable but some things have gone wrong with it. A smaller car might be better becuase there is less to go wrong.

My Nissan Micra was only £750 (including MOT) . It's 11 years old, but it works perfectly, and it has a radio, 1l engine, and looks really pretty

Is this new or old shape? (please say new shape) I.e the bubble car version.

If so my grandad has one of these, K reg 1.3 SRX (or somthing similier) its got 140k on the clock, he's had loads of cars and he said its the best car he has ever had.
