Does anyone here have scoliosis or know of someone who has it?

yeh, as part of my course i followed the term of a pregnant woman from 4 months to term, and she had scoliosis.
It means that doctors have to take very special care when giving an epidural/lumbar puncture as the spine doesn't lie where they would think.
(plus it can give back pain and disc problems!)

do you know how severe it was? did affect the pregnancy in anyway?

it didnt affect the pregnancy itself, it just meant that the doc had to get images of her back well in advance of birth so that they knew where to put the needle for an epidural. They still didnt manage it though and took 25 mins of wriggling and stabbing to give her the epidural.
ouch

I don't know anyone with it, no - does it really adversely affect day to day life?

no, not generally.

it really depends on the severity of the curve..surgery is sometimes needed if the curve is greater than something like 45 degrees. if it's less than that, then life is pretty normal i guess. you just have to live with an 'odd' looking figure

my dad has scoliosis as did my sister, though she had it repaired when she was 12. they thought I had it too but mine turned out to be ok. My dad's day to day life is fine but he is very self conscious about the curvature and doesnt like to go swimming or on the beach. He does get back pain sometimes which is a result of it too,. although most middle-aged people seem to!

My sister has it! She's a walking (slowly and painfully!) disaster. She had the operation to put metal rods in her spine, and it went wrong. Badly.
