Driving to St Andrews and Car parking

Well, i'm driving up due to the abundance of crap I have so I have two questions:

1 - How difficult is it to get a parking permit from the University (I believe they may chuck me into the prison that is Andrew Melville)?

2 - Does anybody need a lift up to St Andrews? I have a clio so not a substantial amount of space but I believe I could fit my stuff plus one other person if they aren't taking any bulky items (e.g. TV) up when I'm driving.

So subject to change (me somehow failing to get in) then would anyone like a lift?

I live in the oxfordshire area and will be driving through or near the following places:

Birmingham
Telford
Stoke
Liverpool
Manchester
Preston

So if you want a lift and are willing to pay for a bit of petrol then give us a message.

I'm planning on driving up too, just wondered how easy/difficult it is to find a parking space. it will need to be a permanent one too really. only need a small one cos i've got a mini, classic ofcourse  cheers.

Depends what hall you're in. There's normally plenty of parking space at DRA/Fife Park and at New Hall (which is close enough to Melville). The halls in the centre of town don't really offer any parking.

Wooo another mini driver! I'm planning on spreading the journey out over a few days, to put less stress on the car, then getting a train back home and a lift up from my parents a few days later, with all my stuff.

I had my car over from Northern Ireland for most of first year, I was in DRA and had absolutely no trouble getting a permit, however I'm in John Burnet for this coming year so I'm not taking it as there is really no point! There was little point me taking it when I was in DRA, I never used it for going into town, it just made Morrisons/golf practice centre trips so much easier! I just make one of my parents take me over the sea instead, but I understand it would be hard if you don't have that luxury! I too have way too much stuff to take on a train or plane and I have an infinite amount of respect for people who do manage this!
Apparently there's free parking on the Scores, my mate who has a flat on market street for next year told me this but she could well be wrong, but anyway I know that that gets busy. However it would be useful for Sallies and maybe MaccyTs (but this has some (very limited) parking round it), I have no idea for Regs or Uni hall, I'm guessing Albany has parking, and for John Burnet you could probably use the big car parks near the science/management buliding right? They're free aren't they?! Obviously DRA/Fife Park has car parks, and I'm pretty sure New Hall and Melville to do, so it kind of depends where you end up. Sorry thats not much help! But as far as getting a permit goes you just e-mail the people, give them your name and registration number and they send one in the post! V. easy!
