What grades do you need to meet the offer?

I've been asked for AAB, which is more than I was expecting but ought to be OK.

Mine is AA. That must be because I only got a B in French A2, whereas you have an A.

My offer is AA and a pass in an AS subject. The pass seems a bit silly to me, but still I'm chuffed with the offer

Argh. Can't decide between Leeds and UCL. I loved the lecture at UCL and I like the course content, but people didn't seem as happy there as they did at Leeds. What do you guys think I should do?

Come to UCL with meeeeee  I'm pretty sure that's where I'll be going.

But seriously, if you are more attracted to Leeds, go there.

Sorry my advice isn't that great lol x

Have you heard from Cambridge yet?

Wow, I didn't know i'd spark as much debate in that thread about it as I did. ha. And despite them all telling me, I think Leeds is going to be my firm seeing as i got rejected from the pool last night (which i was completely expecing) Its weird, everyone around me seems more upset by it than I am, I think I always knew deep down I wasn't going to Cambridge. So Leeds here I come

Glad to see someone else is planning to go to Leeds like moi, even though UCL may potentially give me an offer around January 11th.

You liked CP? As stylish as it seemed, it looked a little sparse.

My faves are Devonshire Hall and Oxley Residences, but I doubt I'll get in any of those.

Any good?
What's it like being a student in London?
Cheers

I'm a first year doing Linguistics at UCL.

Firstly, if you are considering other universities over UCL for Linguistics, please don't! UCL has an excellent faculty for Linguistics and all the lectures are of very high standards, very intellectually stimulating and yes, it is a challenging course, but a very rewarding one as well once you understand the subject matter. Many people think that doing Linguistics is boring and slack, but no, definitely not. On the contrary, it's extremely interesting and very good for giving your brain cells a thorough workout.

And as for studying in London, I'd say that it is probably one of the best things you can do for yourself if you don't want to have many things to do and not feel bored easily. I have many friends studying up north in Oxford, Warwick, Nottingham, Loughborough and Edinburgh, and they all attest to the fact that studying in London is alot more fun because of the amazing amount of things you can do here. They often make trips to London down over the weekends because according to them, 'it's boring' where they are.

I have other friends though, who prefer the quiet and do like the fact that they are not studying in London, so it's really up to your personal preferences; to each his own.

I hope that helped, especially in answering alccrts' queries

From the website, it looks like neurolinguistics is emphasised... Is that right? Any chance of some thoughts on the course structure, your favourite bits, how much interaction with the faculty staff formally/informally, visiting lecturers, etc ... ?

Sorry, I ask a bit much :p: But thank you! UCL is more and more where I want to go

PS: Do you know anyone who is doing/has done the International Programme year abroad, and what they thought of it?

I had Dr. Willis too. I didn't so much as find him scary, just incredibly cold towards me. It was like he'd rejected me before I even walked into the room.

And I'm really quite angry about my application. I had 4 perfect modules under my belt and had sacrificed so much to get into Cambridge before they basically told me I wasn't good enough.

I'm quite happy about my UCL offer though, I just don't know much about the place yet. What do most people do with their free time? I think I'll drop out in a heartbeat if clubbing's the standard student activity...
