India has also the very late postal facility in the world I hope:confused: :p:
Posts keeps arriving after a month or months later. When the person who posted it is already there. lol !

Also the fire department. In my city and also many other places as I know. They arrive after everything is burnt to ashes :frown:

last but not the least, The most famous police department. Also we see in Bollywood movies. hehehe... Hero kills the villain and everything destroyed finally, there enters the police.

hmmm, railway dept... not bad. Once I was reached Chennai 24hrs late :frown: and had to catch the link train to bangalore the next day and my reservation for the previous day is no more valid :frown: I had to travel in the general compartment where people were playing cards

It's really adventerous living in India. Only Indians are lucky to enjoy the life there. That's really impressive inspite of the troubles mentioned above people have tremedous patience to bear with whatever is happening.
happy independence day everyone!

go india :suith:

edit# i officially joined the society today  (subject to approval of course...) expect spamming... hehehe
Happy independence day

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY DEAR IFG'ians

Oath for the 60th Independence mentioned in the Presiden't address :

1. I realize, I have to set a goal in my life. To achieve the goal, I will acquire the knowledge, I will work hard, and when the problem occurs, I have to defeat the problem and succeed.

2. As a youth of my nation, I will work and work with courage to achieve success in all my tasks and enjoy the success of others.

3. I shall always keep myself, my home, my surroundings, neighbourhood and environment clean and tidy.

4. I realize righteousness in the heart leads to beauty in the character, beauty in the character brings harmony in the home, harmony in the home leads to order in the nation and order in the nation leads to peace in the world.

5. I will lead an honest life free from all corruption and will set an example for others to adopt a righteous way of life.

6. I will light the lamp of knowledge in the nation and ensure that it remains lit for ever.

7. I realize, whatever work I do if I do the best, I am contributing towards realizing the vision of developed India 2020.

JAI HIND
Hi everyone- happy independence day :-) I'm not Indian but I'd love to join this society, just been to Tamil Nadu for a month and LOVED it there. Anyone heard of Vijay? He's a Tamil movie hero and my friends and I thought he was ace, we bought T-shirts and watches with him on- not sure if anyone in the UK will recognise him!
Oh, 1 question- where can you buy Paneer in England? Is it available in normal supermarkets? I want to get a south Indian cookbook but wandering if I'll be able to find the ingredients without going to Birmingham or somewhere.
papad
Does that mean 'i want to play with you' ???

BTW for all those who want to learn hindi, there is a very good series of books called 'teach yourself'. Ihave teach yourself 'beginners hindi' its a good book, and id recommend it. I thinkl the website is www.teachyourself.co.uk
hic_et_ubique
It does mean I want to play with you but it's sort of badly spelt (sorry!)

Based on pronounciation it should be:
Mein tumhaare saath khelna chahta/chahti hoon.

The object (tumhaare saath) needs to be placed before the verb khelna in normal written hindi. The other version (mein khelna ... tumhaare saath) is correct but not standard.
Yes it does.
try in any indian food shops

Indian restos in Warwickshire

 you have so many Indian restaurants in warwick and so does the Indian supermarkets I hope coz it's not possible to get ingredients for so many Indian restaurants. Orelse, the best way is directly walk into some Indian restaurants to ask where you can buy Paneer or some good Indian supermarkets nearby coz they will be knowing well. They will be glad to help you

Cool- thanks very much, I'll definately be trying a few recipes before I go to Uni (Paneer butter masala and palak paneer mmmm!) My friends and I all bought instant gulab jamoon mix but I don't know how they'll turn out! It's true, Vijay's not the most gorgeous but much better looking than his merchandise would suggest- although everywhere we went people were mad about him, except the doctor we were working with, who prefered Rajini. I saw 'Ghili' (don't know the spelling) that was really funny- might try and buy it off ebay but haven't found it yet. The soundtrack's cool though- pumping out of my car in leafy warwickshire!
Where in India are people in this soc from?
Tesco also sells Paneer.

Hope everyone had a good Independence day! And Happy Janmashtami!!!

People of India are interested because they dont see many people from outside the country; i.e. they dont travel much around other countries and dont get to see people of different races etc. But India is regarded as having the most kind and hospitable people, so you will be just fine.

Have you been to Agra yet? I used to live there 3 years back, so i know where to go, and generally how the place is like. Feel free to ask me anything.

Yeah we've met some really lovely people, especially the ones who run the guest houses.

Mm, we went to Agra. Lots of people we met travelling said it was horrible but when we got there we actually really liked it. It's quite nice having the area around the Taj Mahal where the rickshaws and cars can't go.

I'm in Bangalore at the moment which I also really like. People here aren't as interested in us and only one person has rushed up to shake my boyfriend's hand! Still loving the food. Off to Mysore tomorrow, can't believe I've only got 10 days left before flying home now :frown: It's gone so fast!

Thanks for the feedback btw
Hello!

I hope crazy_harshan and everyone else waiting for their A levels did really well!
