Would a 16 year old be hired as a receptionist/secretary?

Right so I'm 16, and i'm looking everywhere for a job, preferably a receptionist vacancy or something officey lmao
But I'm worried that I won't be taken seriously, because i'm only 16, and I look REALLY young for my age, and that they'd only want very experienced older people :frown: even though I've done work experience in a law firm, and my CV is pretty good if i say so myself :p:
So yeah just wondering, would anyone employ a 16 year old to be a receptionist?

Thank you!

I doubt it, to be honest. I have four months experience as a receptionist, and nowhere will hire me because I'm too young and "haven't got the life experience". I'm 19, have both relevant and general work experience, good school grades, speak three languages and have lived abroad. So I can only really guess that they use life experience as a euphemism for being a "proper grown up" (ie in their twenties) and wouldn't hire a 16 year old.

You stand a chance, but it really depends on the establishment. Small firms want experienced receptonists with qualifications - because they hire fewer, they want more skills on offer that they can offer and you can't (receptionist course ect)

However, if you can find a mid-sized firm who want someone to answer phones, file, type up memo's and notes, then you'll be in with a fighting chance - solicitors are the sort of placs that I've known to hire.

just look everywhere - including job websites, as lots of companies will advertise on there, though usually for full time work and don't forget to go round all your local companies - estate agents etc and ask!!

Good luck finding a job!!

Not to be rude but you're severly unlikely to be getting a job like that aged 16 unless you know someone who runs an office.

You haven't even got your GCSE grades yet right. I'd go for somewhere like WH Smith, they dont mind young workers.

You would, on the NHS at least. They hired a 16 yo in our office, and I don't even think she was very well qualified tbh. Turns out she was ******* crazy, but you live and learn :P:

highly unlikely, they would probably just laugh at you :frown:

I doubt it, you might get lucky. If I walked into a company and there was a girl that looked about 14 at the reception desk I would be put off straight away, just how the world works.

Haven’t had any complaints 😂
