Could someone explain why Cambridge with a very similar workload gets such better student satisfaction ratings?

Mainly because you get the uni equivalent of "spoon feeding" and also because the entire university is more of a comunity and every member supports it and feels its their "duty" to uphold some sort of reputation or continue some sort of tradition. Basically it makes you feel special.
LSE on the other hand, being so international, means that it lacks such a community spirit. You are left to your own resources, you are less pampered, hence you feel less special. So thats one disparity.

Furthermore the majority of students enrolled at LSE for its employment prospects, whereas most camb students are in it for other (more altruistic) reasons. Therefore lse students view their education as means to an end (something which is a building block to their success) and so it becomes less important to them and hence they value it less. If you get into cambridge on the other hand, the feeling is that you've already succeeded and that everything from then on will be sorted - i.e. you feel like a made man - another disparity.

Additionally the majority of lse students (aspiring lawyers, politicians, bankers) are exactly the type of people who tend to put everything down because they are the professions most likely to develop a superiority complex.

PS. You should really remove any second doubts from your mind, not because you made the "wrong" or "right" choice, but because such thoughts could lead to you not enjoying the uni so much.

excellent analysis 'astudent'

Sorry to be such a late late contributor to this thread, I'm studying Maths and Economics and cant bloomin wait.

But a few queries first off.........
any1 on here staying in an intercollegiate hall? I've got connaught hall and was happy at first with the view of networking with a larger community i.e. students from SOAS UCL and KCL as well as LSE.
But now I fear I maybe missing out on the social scene in LSE and that clicks may already be formed in connaught hall before I get there since all the other unis start a week earlier.
With reference to this does any1 know if it has been a problem for LSE students in the past? I appreciate this is a freshers thread but maybe they could share some insight.

Secondly, does any1 know if you can do rugby and football concurrently in the LSE AU?
I wonder if LSE got that penguin back...

For anyone getting out a student loan, when is your tuition fees being paid to LSE? My one says it's scheduled for February and May 2010, which seems wrong.

Are you taking out the full loan? If yes then it's correct and you don't have to do anything.

I wouldn't worry about it. On your LSE4U's financials page you should see something like "SPONSOR: SLC"

It has SLC's address and stuff at the bottom of the fees page. But I'm sure I read somewhere that LSE expects at least a part of the fees paid in October. SLC sent me a letter saying they're paying half of £3225 in Feb 2010 and the other half in May 2010.

Umm, I suppose saying that I meant the chocolate/biscuit bar wouldn't be believed.
Do people receive some email confirmation after submitting the "verifying your application" and "financial undertaking" forms(+Payment Plan) on LSEforYou?
Thing is, the retard I am, I filled in and submitted the forms on the 18th of July before I got my results and became an accepted student :pinch: LFY doesn't let me resubmit them so I'm left with this cliffhanger of whether they got the info or not :o:

I was under the impression that they wanted us to fill it out prior to results? If I remember correctly, they said it would be preferable if we filled it out within a week?

I did it before results day too. :o: On the LSE for you fees page it says my sponsor is the SLC, though, so presumably my financial verification form worked?
