Yea. The events on lsefestival are the ones LSESU organise and will be held around campus like Tuns/Quad. The facebook ones are those put on by London clubs and promoted by various student companies. Many will be advertised as 'inter-hall welcome' and 'freshers' but they're just regular student nights (they may have a better act though). As you go through the year you'll get the allegedly special 'christmas', 'easter', 'last bit of fun before revision' and finally 'results' nights before it starts all over again.
Any reccomendations as to which events I should attend (both club promotions and LSE)?
Well for London you have TigerTiger, On Anon, Fabric, Vertigo to start you off.
LSE I'm thinking Play, Where the Wild Things Are, Crush. Haven't looked at it in detail.
I haven't heard of any events for TigerTiger, On Anon and Vertigo (this is based on FB groups and invites) but I do want to go to Fabric. I would rather buy the ticket at the door just incase I don't end up going, do you think it would be sold out?

Well no but a lot of these events are just regular student nights with a 'FRESHERS WELCOME PARTY' slapped on.
Fabric is pricey, about £20. For a freshers week event I would bet it would be hard to get into without a ticket but never tried so don't know.
Is Fabric the sort of night that's planned like a week or two in advance?
It's definitely not a 'it's a Thursday so let's go Fabric' deal. In my experience people buy tickets a few days in advance but talk about it for two weeks before.
Like Fabric is on the 7th Oct but already people are talking to me about going/buying tickets.

Tigertiger have the best student nights on Mondays, and On Anon have it on a different day, so you basically just buy them on a door.
Tiger tige's entrance is only £5 and drinks are really really cheap ( I absolutely love this club :P)

Yeah, my friends have gone to Fabric before and from what I hear people tend to buy tickets in advance.
El Mariachi
I think I'm gonna get a ticket for the freshers' ball too at Vertigo...it looks soooooo good!
I can't find where to get tickets, and I haven't seen anything about this event (apart from TSR)
By the way if you want to go to the Vertigo ball you should definitely get tickets in advance because last year, as nicky_p will testify, loads of people were promised entry at the door but all were turned away.
I didn't know there was a Fresher's Ball until checking this thread! I expected one though. I can't believe the Banking Fair's like the first event (presumably they're setting the LSE precedent).
