oh lol please tell me you do not think that is a valid argument

I meant it in the sense that I hate people who assume everybody who had the decision of picking between the two automatically chose Cambridge, and that only once in a blue moon does somebody do otherwise. Clearly there are differences between the two such as Cam tutorials, and the higher independant learning aspect at LSE that appeal to different people. Those who assume all LSE economists are merely Cambridge rejects are silly.

Firmed LSE, and made Warwick their insurance.

You forgot the main factor that swings it (for me at least) - London! Thats the main reason why i didnt go to cambs, not to mention lse is better for econ anyway.

At the end of the day once you come here youll realise no one cares about the whole oxbridge vs lse thing - its all about having a good time and doing well in those exams. No one actually cares.

I picked Bankside because I hear that's where all the wild sex parties and satanic rituals take place, that is where they're held, right?

lulz although LSE is quite a few thousand pounds more expensive than cam, so I would think that going for LSE over cam for undergrad means that you are slightly mislead.

Maybe some people prefer the atmosphere of London? I personally would not choose to live in Cambridge over London, simply because London is somewhere where I have lived for over fifteen years and I love it so much. It's just such an incredible place, especially compared to Cambridge which is rumoured to be somewhat limited in the nightlife it offers.
Whatever. Plenty of other threads discussing the whole LSE v.s Cam debate - this is just for general fresher chit chat!

For the more intellectual ones, I thought I'd post this link:

http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/LSEPublicLecturesAndEvents/live/LSELive_previous.htm

It's a list of videos of previous public lectures at LSE. I've not seen any of them yet, but some of them seem intriguing.

Do you plan on attending many public lectures when you're at LSE yourself? I don't think I'll ever manage to, but I like the idea of going.

Econ & Econ History here....

Hall....please don't ask. :frown:
I'm just hoping Obama comes to speak at some point during the next three years - there was a Faceboook petition for him to speak this year but it didn't amount to anything (a bit too early perhaps). LSE's attracted equally big names before, and he picked a fair few LSE grads for his administration so hopefully it'll happen at some point!

Ha, I'd kill for a job in the Obama administration. Then again I have nothing to offer so..

Fingers crossed he comes though. I can't think of anyone cooler to speak there (then again I'd love David Cameron to talk again so I can pelt him with something).
Just wondering what societies people are thinking about joining? I'd like to have a go at rowing seeing as i've never had the opportunity to do it before. What's everyone else thinking?

I read somewhere (most likely Wikipedia) that the UoL rowing's immense - they race Oxford and Cambridge etc.

Personally, I'll flock towards the more fun/entertainment societies than anything academic. I wouldn't mind doing drama, writing for the newspaper, doing work for the radio/TV station etc. With any luck I'll get into a AU team, so my time'll start to be slightly limited.

I think I'm going to join the investment and hedge fund society, very boring I know!

How terribly predictable... Only joking, i think i'll join quite a few societies to start with so i can meet quite a few people and then see which i prefer.

My 'guess' is the LSE's rowing team won't be particularly strong but i too have heard the UoL team is very good, so i guess that's the real aim for anyone willing to really go for it.

Isn't AIESEC supposed to be good? A combination of a business soc but a good chance to make drinking buddies?

Gone for 2 days, and you guys digress into a LSE v Cam debate, oh dear :p:

For people who have catered accomodation (which I guess is most), how much cooking stuff are you bringing? Rosebery looks like you have a locker, but it doesn't look very big, and it is being renovated soon anyway...

I think im going to end up joining about 26 to start with  Too much choice!! I hope I have time to do a couple of societies tho but I've heard that LSE has an all-consuming work-load!!

Abt the catered accomodation thing, why wud we need cooking stuff if we have meals cooked for us?
