There's an Aldi? Yessss, how far is that road from Emma?
Too far to walk it with shopping, but if you could get a couple of people to club in for a taxi, it probably wouldn't be terribly expensive.
And to whoever brought up the Aldi, that's awesome. I was looking for a Lidl originally (even though they're evil and view the working-time directive as discretionary), but Aldi's probably better. I might drive there tonight. Anyone know how late it stays open?
Thank goodness for SelwynPeterhouse keeping us in college for all three years!

Where did you get all your Trek bars from when you went walking? I want lots for my 50km rowing marathon at the weekend. Do Sainsbury's/Tesco's stock them?
The health shop used to where White Stuff used to be sells them, but we usually order a huge box online if we want to go on a hike or something.

Thanks. I can get a huge box from Arjuna on Mill Road for the same price as online, but TBH, for a 5 hour row (during which I won't actually be eating) 24 bars will be far too many! It seems that boxes of 6 or so don't exist...

Ooh I didn't know that. I'll remember that for next hike.
Is this for swine flu or something? I've heard of a fair few at Cam that had it.
I'm pretty sure Peterhouse will be the last college to suggest this; they left the norovirus warning and safety measures till a week after everyone else had started.
Yeah, it's for swine flu. Everyone has to find two 'flu friends' and register them on CamSIS. They are the people who are supposed to bring you food and stuff while you are locked up in your room .
Yup, swine flue it is.. I think it's probably a decent idea.. but I can see a whole flu friend network going down with it.. As in, if you have three people who are all each others' flu friends.. And I don't really see why you should have to input your FF's contact details into camsis... seems a bit formal..
And I think its a silly idea because it will just spread the flu in colleges faster. If somebody gets it they ought to go home; not try and stagger on through term, infecting people in lectures Thank goodness my class sizes will probably be < 20 again this year.
i guess going home's not an option for everyone, so its better if only one or two people visit, rather than hordes coming to find out of you're ok and subsequently getting infected.
In Germany, most swine flu cases up to now went like this: People got headaches and other flu symptoms, they lasted for 2-5 days, then they were fine again. Going home seems a bit overkill provided that the symptoms are not more severe than that.

Yay for 200+! ..Although, not exactly worried by it.
Woe is me. The jobs market is so thin, and the competition so fierce.
I had an interview for a position in Bath yesterday. Turned out they had 75 applications for it, and whittled them down to 5 interviews.
This is a junior position in a small, obscure company in a small city... 75 applications! It's insane.
Also, Craggy: yes you would complain First thing you'd do once the flu laid you up in bed would be to come here and say 'oh no, the flu got me', admit it

Yeah, like going home isn;t going to potentially infect dozens of people :P
I just had the most depressing week EVER, in terms of breaking bad news and people not coping brilliantly with chronic disease.
Poor visesh And yes it would, but they don't have Cambridge terms to deal with, so I don't really sympathise. If you have to take sick time off of work, the corporate world continues! But time out of term time seriously screws up your ability to get the grades.

I know. College hubby in the same boat. He's been applying to an average of 5 or 6 different jobs a day for the entire summer, with only 3 interviews, none of which were successful

Certainly I wouldn't let my inner subtext of 'thank God this wasn't in term' reduce my chances of milking my broader acquaintanceship of sympathy...
