Ooh, would you like to be medical advisor on my mum's new book? I asked Helen a few questions, but I think she's too busy with real life to reply!

oooh I woudn't mind, but might lack the experience. I guess I know who to ask for advice etc. though...

It's my personal profile I'm trying to write in. It's let me do one spoiler but won't let me do any more - it cuts me off half way through the text.

The signature I can't put anything in at all.

Dude, I'm telling you - this will be so much easier if you just AAM it with instructions for what the outcome needs to be! :poke:

ditto to mumps/EBV. I had that over christmas in second year, and that royally ****** over the rest of the year...

And that's the worst year of UG medicine too, isn't it?
Getting ill in termtime sucks. Last year i got an inner ear infection that made me a) unable to walk straight b) unable to read for a fortnight, which really buggered me up. :frown: 'Course I ended up degrading anyway, but I probably wouldn't have if it hadn't been for that.

I think I'd just degrade in those instances. Although that's only theoretical, as basically Uni is my occupation now. I wouldn't have any 'home' for me to conveniently temporarily move back to.

If they would let you degrade.

Yup, it is. I ended up failing 2 of my 2nd MB papers (i.e. the ones the GMC care about and allow 1 resit in) and therefore for a 2ii, and therefore couldn't do a lab project for my Part 2... My college didn't seem to want to acknowledge that though... Nevermind, tis in the past!

Bummer! :s-smilie:
Everyone's Facebook status seems to be about how they didn't get stuck to their chair when watching the Derren Brown's subliminal film. It didn't work on me either, although I'm sure the fact that I didn't watch it was quite a sizeable factor in this. :p:

I'd like to start hiking and I'm hoping to get some walking boots. From this, the Hi-Tec Altitude IV look like the kind of thing that I'm looking for (basic and affordable, but of a good standard), but given that there's a strong hiking contingent on CamChat, I was just wondering whether any of you had any advice or recommendations.

Its always so reassuring reading your posts  Most of the time it seems I'm the only person in the world prone to think ahead so much :p:

Hehe, thanks. :p: I'm thinking of booking a short meeting with the relevant careers adviser this Michaelmas to talk about my options, but I don't want to feel as if I'm taking precious time away from third-years...

The show was called "How to Control the Nation", so I would say it worked since he made so many people watched his show on a flimsy promise.

Well its a good idea to try them on before you buy them in case you find out that they're narrow or broad in the wrong places. And I would recommend shelling out the extra to buy gore tex shoes, because the other sort of waterproofing shoes have really doesn't work; it wears out after a year. Gore-tex stayes totally waterproof forever pretty much. I frequently submerge my entire foot in puddles without any of that getting through; might even be wearing wellies. But then if you don't mind getting your feet wet. I mind it because you get blisters really quickly from the friction if water gets in.

My first pair ever were Hi-Tec. They were nice but I definitely got blisters and the waterproofing wore away fairly fast. Of the boots on that page, I'd say Merrel would be the best on the grounds of being really comfortable and also having gore-tex. But try and find some online in a sale, because it will hit your bank account badly otherwise.

Are you kidding? I think the Careers Service must get like promotion on every extra student they help. At least that's what you'd think from how desperate they seem to get people to sign up with them.

CPF- while Goretex is pretty damned good, look for eVent lined shoes as they are equally (if not better) waterproofed, and also allow moisture to escape, minimising blisterage. My friend managed to get a pair of karrimore eVents for ~£50 last year, which was a bloody good deal seeing as i just spent £100 on some saloman gore-tex boots. However, not many people have heard of eVent...

Is it the same technology then? The main distinction obviously being between fabrics with waterproof, selectively permeable membranes built into them, and shoes that simply get a coating which wears off. I know gore-tex isn't the only one to do it, just the pioneers and the more famous ones.

I seem to have more friends with statuses saying that something did happen... I watched his trick on youtube and it appears that a picture of someone tied to a chair flashes up.

He certainly managed to achieve something extraordinary: he made my brother get up from the sofa (or so my brother claims). I don't think that has ever happened before. I saw a small bit of the programme where Derren managed to predict what the person who he picked out of the audience would do. Quite astonishing.
