I won't even bother checking online for my lecture timetable until the 7th. They never put anything up till the day before  When the Reporter publishes their list at the start of the year, there's always this big blank under SPS :p:

I did click on that (it seems to morph between various combinations of S's, P's, and now I's) wondering if there were any interesting-sounding lectures I could sneak into, but all I could find was the 2008 lecture list

Ah, I remember the young and innocent days when I used to look at interesting lectures from other subjects and contemplate going to them, only to realise that I found it hard enough keeping up with my own workload. Good on you if you manage to find the time to do that sort of thing, though - it's one of my many unfulfilled ambitions :yep:

If you get a chance to do it, the History of Maths lectures are fantastic fun. The lecturer is such a character, and he actively endorses eating, drinking and anything else you care to dream up during lectures. He was most proud when a couple of his lectees (?) ate a four course meal in black tie including wine during his lecture... Plus the lectures themselves are really interesting.

I am still recovering from rowing 50km on Sunday in the Boston Marathon. I have these really annoying blisters on my wrists from my gloves chafing. Grrr. It was great fun, if pretty tough!

Lol exactly. Of course there's always those other people [eg girl in my college who came top of the year] who bounce along to Philosophy, English and History lectures on top of SPS lectures and still get their work done on time to party every night :p:

If I send something to my Cambridge email address now, will I be able to retrieve it when I arrive, or are they not completely set up until we take some action after coming up?

It will be active at some point before you get there, I know this because when I first logged in (the day after I moved in) I had about 20 emails waiting for me.

Actually being the sad git that I am I have all my old emails archived on my computer so I can refer to them without them taking up space on Hermes. So I can tell you that I moved to Cambridge on Saturday 30th September 2006, but the first e-mail on there was received on Tuesday 12th September (which were "welcome to Robinson undergrads mailing list" etc). So by these timescales it should be set up and working.

No, PBH at the CMS.

4hrs57mins. Sub five! I blogged about it, as did my friend in his blog. Would do it again, for sure. It was such an experience!

I was interested in these already, and this has now convinced me.

I understand it now but I'm not sure if that's a good thing, I've realised that on Wednesdays I have German grammar lectures at 9AM! :eek3:

I remember those.

I've now begun packing, in the knowledge that every year I forget something important. With six days deviation it should work out.

Did you start off on MML? Or go to 9am German grammar lectures for fun?

I have realised the chances of me getting the time to go to any of these other lectures is quite low. I was thinking about trying to get to some of the English ones on approaches to literature though.

Ah, I meant 9am lectures. The earliest I now have to attend lectures is 10am. The only German I get is my mum who speaks in German at me (she isn't German, just a keen learner).

Ahh, I see. This isn't just a 9am lecture though, this is a 9am lecture on German grammar. :eek3: Shh Mel, you love it really.

Do people have any opinions on Newnham Terrace?

You have a home? :eek3: Yaay! :bumps:

Price is my main concern at the moment. I'll take a look at that place as I was wondering where to get some in Cambridge (any suggestions by TSRers are welcome). Keep in mind that I'm a complete tenderfoot (no pun intended) about this - for example, when you mentioned proofing leather regularly, I realised I wouldn't know how to go about that. :o: You might have to give me a tutorial :p:

1) Go to outdoor shop
2) Find leather wax stuff
3) Go home
4) Smear on boots with your finger

On a more positive note, today I should receive my new excavation equipment. This includes a trowel holster. It really does.

I can't say just how cool that is.

One of the CUCB committee lived there last year. Seemed nice, central location, etc.

I have a provisional room, and a provisional rent, but I think that's the road I'll be on, and apparently it's all connected to the college, which is nice

I can message epitome on facebook if you like. She was at Newnham, so probably knows it.

According to my timetable I have 9am lectures every day of the week :frown:

You're a medic though, you're meant to. I'm a slobby Arts student, this is not right.
