Your supervisor's word is law.

Unless he happens to be a deranged weirdo, like I got at the end of last Lent, in which case you put your foot down and moan to the DoS :awesome:
Anyone know if you can get away with using an undergrad gown for grad matriculation? Don't feel like spending £50 or so for a new gown...

It could be lupus
It also seems that I am not getting lunch at all during the week. Stupid ham sandwiches again.... its like bloody school all over

Nope first year medics do get lunch, usually 1-2pm (the timetable is deceptive and goes "12-1pm", "2-3pm").

Thanks, I realised that after a while. How decieving of them... :p:

Could you post it home? I don't know how much they charge for parcels, so if it's heavy it might cost too much.

It's on eBay and is pickup only :frown:

The problem is that I don't know anyone near Swindon and those that I do will not have room for it when going up to Cambridge. There isn't anyone that I know that will have the time or inclination to drive any further to get there and even if I booked way in advance, lugging a pedalboard from Swindon on the train would be tricky
Arts students have early lectures too. I had a 9am Mon-Fri in third year :frown:

Athena - What day are you going up? The closest I can tihnk of is just beyond the green by the back of Kings, but you don't stand a chance of parking there if you go on freshers moving day - and its 50p for 15 minutes.

Does anyone know where's the closest place to Newnham Road/Silver Street is that has on road parking? Darwin apparently don't do loading permits or let you park anywhere on site, even for half an hour, so how the hell are you supposed to move your stuff in? :s-smilie: Newnham Rd seems to be totally double-yellow lines, so suggestions would be gratefully received...
There is a road called Newnham Walk. I'm not sure whether it's free or pay and display (I'm pretty sure it's free) but either way if you go on the wrong sort of day it will probably be full as well. West Road also has pay and display on one side.

Hm, I can't see anything obvious on a Saturday from the lecture list. We get 4 supervisions/week in first year tho', so I daresay some of them might end up then. On the upside, I don't see any compsci lectures before 1000, although there might be physics/psychology (still not decided!) lectures then.

NatSci Maths, as has been said, is 9am and happens on Saturdays; I believe Physics lectures are indeed 9am too. Not sure about Psychology though.

Could you offer to pay the postage cost?
Yeah, back from China, and back on the internet and facebook

How have you all been?

PS : it is rather sad that my first reaction after arriving back home was to turn on the computer and go check facebook :ninja: :geek:

Hey  Fellow Comp Sci....

Unfortunately.... Maths is at 9 on Saturday :frown:

Do you know if we can still take psychology? On the paper where they asked us to choose our natsci option, it didn't give us the option of taking psychology...

The psychology option still exists (as far as I know) but isn't a NatSci option. CompSci with NatSci counts as different from CompSci with Psychology, as far as admin is concerned.
I'm going back to Cambridge today :woo:

Hello! I think any number of 9 AMs is an improvement over leaving for school at 7.

We definitely can take psychology: my DoS sent out an email to all the freshers that explicitly mentioned it. Our forms only allowed us to express a non-binding interest in taking one of the natsci options, so I put physics down there, but psychology sounds interesting.
Back from spain, returning to the land of internets :woo:

I'm starting to think my father is cursed, almost everytime i fly with him something goes wrong, normally the return flight is delayed like 12 hours.
Yesterday the flight was meant to leave at 1pm instead the plane broke and we were going to have to stay another night (at the airline's expense) and fly back at 10 this morning but seeing as we've got dental appointments then are going to edinbrugh on the train this afternoon we got a refund and flew back with easyjet late last night so i got home at midnight! The time before we were stranded in finland for a day!

in other more cambridge orientated news- my college daughter has been born :woo: she emailed me  (she doesn't seem to have facebook though  which worries me ever so slightly :p:)

That's because the Psychology you guys got offered was from PPSIS not from NatSci, if Unbeliever was right

If you take Social Psychology, you won't have any lectures before 10am (in fact I think they were all 11 or after) and you won't have any on Saturday :yy: That's providing its the first year paper from the SPS Tripos though.

Your life seems enviably full of cooking interesting things

I'm moving in on Saturday, so hopefully there won't be too many other people about.

Thanks, good to have some options. Why Darwin can't just be sensible and do loading permits like all the Oxford colleges is beyond me...

OK, Google streetview to the rescue!

Going for a virtual walk down the bit of Newnham Road by Darwin, I noticed a few possibilities:

You might be able to park in here, just down from the terrace: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=newnham+road&sll=52.2998,0.188352&sspn=0.41066,1.234589&ie=UTF8&ll=52.199253,0.113643&spn=0.000804,0.002411&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=52.199354,0.113659&panoid=VZojUQTm_dC7q3VJ3X5cYQ&cbp=12,123.38,,0,12.26

Its an urban clearway, but as this sign suggests, only between 7-9:30am and 4-7pm which suggests that other times of day, its ok to park for unloading etc. : http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=newnham+road&sll=52.2998,0.188352&sspn=0.41066,1.234589&ie=UTF8&ll=52.200333,0.11316&spn=0.000804,0.002411&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=52.200419,0.11312&panoid=l7AMVQQxRLpEiUfbVItGmw&cbp=12,126.89,,0,13.17

There are paying carparking spaces on the opposite side of the road, which you can see here:http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=newnham+road&sll=52.2998,0.188352&sspn=0.41066,1.234589&ie=UTF8&ll=52.200137,0.113256&spn=0.000804,0.002411&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=52.200052,0.113297&panoid=Ca0HOsU6PxaoA78X4DWbwg&cbp=12,219.69,,0,20.11

See you soon I hope, and good luck!

Is there not some thing where you can unload for a short time anyway?
Last year [when I wasn't in college proper] I just told the warden folk that I'm unloading.. and they've accepted it..*shrug*

In other news, one of my dogs is sleeping with his eyes open.. it's freaky..
The juxtaposition of this amused me...
