fencing shoes, rock boots, astro turf shoes, studs and running trainers (oops apparently there's 5 :s-smilie:) and thats not including trail shoes

I always used squash shoes for fencing:P:
What're rock boots? Just like, walking boots?
And yowzer, the last 3 have a significant overlap I'm sure!

rock boots as in climbing shoes. I know! but astros for kickabouts, studs for rugby or more serious stuff and neither of them have a sole that i can really "run" (on tarmac etc) in so i have running shoes too :colondollar:

Four pairs? Nice.
I just bring far too much stuff in general. I know I'm only going to wear a certain set of clothes... but I still pack heaps more. I'm not gonna have enough wardrobe space...
My big trunk is already away, but the two oars aren't.. They wouldn't fit in the courier's van.. Despite stating several times, 'they're about 380cm long..' So that will be a nice little detour on the way to the airport tomorrow..

You have a trunk that's nearly FOUR METERS LONG!?!

Can you lift it?

oars  and from northern ireland too :eek3: i thought fencing kit was bad enough. I think i will have to learn to pack lighter this year seeing as i can only have a short contract on my room so i can't leave stuff in it over the hols like i did last time!

Yup. Thankfully it's a one off..well, kinda.. I have to get one of them back over.. Silly boat club not having any wooden oars to paint.. I should just take up sports which don't have such unwieldily equipment!
Heh, you can try packing lighter, but I've had to move the majority of my stuff out at the end of each term for 2 years now and I am still no closer to the magical asymptote of 'bare essentials' than I was when I started.. :p:

Noo, the oars are nearly 4m long, the trunk is 97cm long :p:
... and no... I can't lift my trunk by myself...

Its another word for climbing shoes. They typically have soles 3.5mm thick, so quite the opposite of walking boots.
Hmm I think we've had the "guys comparing shoes" discussion before on here but here goes anyway...
Normal trainers
Smart shoes
Steel toe cap boots (useful for backstage stuff at the ADC)
Walking boots
Climbing shoes (these are really tight fitting shoes with grippy rubber sole eg. these)

I had no idea that so many indoor sports (fencing, squash etc) all had specialist shoes! I suppose I might be taking five pairs of shoes but they're all very different and look very different.

Hmm. I just have my trainers (Merrel light walking shoes, nicer colour than the grotesque OTT white they make everything in these days) which I use for gym and, er, light walking :p: Hiking boots - North Face and Gore Tex. Climbing shoes (La Sportiva, Ladies Katanas) Two pairs of heels, one pair of pumps (for want of better description) two pairs of flip flops, one pair of Doc Martens, two pairs of Crocs in different styles, one pair of long leather boots, one pair of weird leather hand crafted embroidered Indian shoes, Wellington boots and a really ugly pair of black pumps which I hate and would love to throw away, but have to hold onto because I will probably need them for graduation or something, and I hate black so much that I'd never willingly part money for a new pair of shoes in that colour.
I have a pair of riding boots in South Africa, but the rest is in Cambridge.
I have sensible black shoes, trainers, sandals, walking boots, flip flops. That's it.

I wear my sandals all year round, with socks in the winter.

My flip-flops have a word carved into the bottom of them and that word gets printed on the sand wherever I've been :p:

So I was wrong about your being female :p:

Not necessarily. Also, is that gleaned from the first or the second comment?

If I told you that then I'd be paranoid....:p:

What word do you think would be appropriate?

'Plod' would be good, so your footprints read 'plod, plod, plod...' across the sand.

Its not necessary, but its statistically likely. That's gleaned from your shoe confession.

You really need to get used to this whole internet deal :sadnod:

What word do you think would be appropriate?

From a South African point of view: "Billabong"
From a TSR point of view: "Fumble the Wise"
From a Cambridge point of view: "I'm a tourist" [also statistically probable]

Surely 'flip' on one, 'flop' on the other.. :p:

But before you were telling me that it was statistically likely that I was female...

Maybe :o:

What does that mean?

I'm liking the 'flip' and 'flop' idea the best.

I'm bringing 11 pairs of shoes, but I'm thinking of buying another couple of pairs in Cambridge... stereotypical gender traits ftw :p:

See, my standard shoes are trainers, so I use them for kickabouts, astros for college hockey(typically on astro, so understandable), and my trainers are ok for running...but I'm not great at that, so I don't need proper ones!

Ah, ok, I've always refered to them as climbing shoes, and just either hired them, used my normal trainers(seems to work fine for anything I've done), or used 'American shoes'(this is what my family call these shoes we buy in the US, they're for wading basically, but really thin, and good at drying out).

Apologies for any nonsense spouted, I'm 4 pints in.

You're a forum assistant? Congratulations  PS Help I take it?

Shoes-wise, to Cambridge I took last time trainers, black shoes, walking boots, wetsuit boots, sea boots and sports shoes. The above trainers now have a hole in the sole, so I may take my other pair of trainers as well, which don't. I also have a pair of steelcaps somewhere, but I don't need them. Those are all the shoes I have in the world I think :p:

On the sports shoe front, I've got my walking boots, trainers, basketball shoes (high ankles) and cricket studs. I also have 2 pairs of formal shoes I wear everyday and on the wards (brown and black) and my other work shoes are my theatre clogs.

my father has a go at me every term about my shoe collection and it's ever expanding size. I cut down to 11 pairs this term (including trainers) but no...it still wasn't good enough!

The first real freshers thing was tonight, to which two of my course mates came, and I'm feeling happier - I'm getting to know people, I can deal with the hall system, and I feel like I have friends (at least, new friends, who I didn't already know like Amy, FtB and Craggy ) I did, however, get lost trying to find the bus station...

oh that's good! I went out a bit yesterday but there were only about 8/9 people - this is still pre fresher's week apparently and real stuff doesnt start till Sunday. I still feel a quite isolated but I have a few school friends/friends from Cam still here so I might try and meet up with them beforehand. Still haven't met any course people yet.
