Yes, fumblewomble, are you male or female? Me and Canned Door were talking about how helpful you were the other night and were having difficulty avoiding gendered pronouns! "Fumblewomble is very helpful." "Yes, yes fumblewomble is."

You could perhaps have tried these. Though I'm not sure if that's any less silly an alternative.
Hmm I think we've had the "guys comparing shoes" discussion before on here but here goes anyway... Normal trainers Smart shoes Steel toe cap boots (useful for backstage stuff at the ADC) Walking boots Climbing shoes (these are really tight fitting shoes with grippy rubber sole eg. these)
I had no idea that so many indoor sports (fencing, squash etc) all had specialist shoes! I suppose I might be taking five pairs of shoes but they're all very different and look very different.
I'm impressed with how slimline your shoe selection is. I think I'm on: 4 pairs of casual trainers 3 pairs of formal shoes flip flops other sandal-ly things the 5 pairs of sports shoes and a pair of trail shoes (bright red North Face )
mwiko
Surely 'flip' on one, 'flop' on the other..
visesh
On the sports shoe front, I've got my walking boots, trainers, basketball shoes (high ankles) and cricket studs. I also have 2 pairs of formal shoes I wear everyday and on the wards (brown and black) and my other work shoes are my theatre clogs.

Those are silly, I'd just use singular they, or if that seemed awkward, reword so that an animate gender-neutral singular pronoun wasn't required. Anyway, I'm 90% convinced that Fumblewomble is female, simply from writing style.
Oh, and shoes: New trainers, old trainers, even older trainers with a literal hole all the way through one of the soles, converse, smart shoes, slippers, flip flops (for navigating the tricky byways to the shower).
my father has a go at me every term about my shoe collection and it's ever expanding size. I cut down to 11 pairs this term (including trainers) but no...it still wasn't good enough!
As soon as I saw that you had quoted me, I knew it would be about shoes I'm proud of my ever-expanding collection; & when I'm done on the shoe front (i.e. after to next couple of pairs), I'm going to move onto bags
Yeah, I'm not feeling too academic yet... hopefully that will change. Soon :/
Before reading this thread I thought I was taking an excessive number of shoes, but four pairs (trainers, formal, astro and squash) now seems inadequate.

You need a spare pair of trainers, but then that's the perfect amount
Were you playing hockey for Girton when some idiot from Christ's kicked the ball to stop it going in? (I think it was against Girton anyway.)
Um, was this cuppers, or the league? Either way, if it was Girton, probably(I either missed none or one match last year I think). Bit disappointing I don't remember tbh, given I should be near that end of the pitch!

League iirc. I'll apologise even if you don't remember (which suggests it might not have been Girton). While vaguely aware that I was kicking it, it didn't really register until just before contact, at which stage it was too late to stop. Luckily it didn't affect the outcome.

It's fine, that kinda thing happens a lot Team you were playing were in basically white tops with green shoulders?(Just packed my hockey top if that wasn't obvious) Are you guys in league 3 again this term, yeah?

Don't remember the kit unfortunately. I just remember that it was a second term game that we lost.
We are. Are you in it again too? I know you were one of the better teams in the division, but I don't remember where anyone came.

Yeah, we're still there. We very narrowly avoided promotion in both terms(in the last 5 minutes of the season to Pembroke in the second term!), should hopefully promoted at some point this year.

Unlucky. I'm sure you can put up with cheats for one more term though.

That sounds promising
Re: pronouns, I always use "they". It is a little inelegant perhaps, but it works.

Maybe we should start using it as a gender-neutral alternative to he or she; i.e. "they is" instead of "he/she is", to make it clear that it refers to the singular.
