Whaaaat? That's bizarre :lolwut: Peterhouse just give you your IP and then you're set up to plug into any socket on college property for the whole three years. They hadn't even bothered taking my college husband off of the system yet when he came to stay in late summer and could carry on using his laptop in the library (which is hardwired not wireless)

Well if I ever have any net issues in Cam I usually take to haunting the Grad Pad :teeth:

It's a new system being tested, apparently. It's not getting me connected any faster, so I'm all against it.

That's not a bad idea ... plus the place smells of coffee for much of the day. Very important, that.
Are people allowed to have guests stay over in their room ?

Yes. Use forum search and read any one of hundreds of threads on that question if you want more information.

My favourite thing is the great view from the cafe, and the fact that most of the time the majority of customers are quietly reading.
Oh and it being literally next door to my college doesn't hurt...
So is the Freshers' thread merging with yours as of tomorrow then?

Could do. We've usually just waited for everybody to notice - often weeks later - that nobody was posting in it anymore and to drift over, but merging with a redirect could work well.

Nooo I hate it when threads get merged!!! It seems to cause people to just get confused. Just today it appeared that somebody reposted a thread similar to one that had been posted yesterday because the original got merged into the "Which college?" thread. I was going to link him to the first thread but that would've been no use as he'd have had to sift through the entire which college thread to find answers, and he likely wouldn't bother.

Personally I disapprove of this idea of merging threads into large general threads (eg. the which college one) as it makes it difficult for applicants with very specific questions to find an answer, as the stuff they're looking for will be buried in a sea of irrelevant information with no means of sorting through it. It also makes threads difficult to read as people reply to each other without quotes, not expecting it to be merged in such a way that there are posts of another thread in between. Also I don't like the attitude of "if it's been asked before, it should never be asked again" you see on some forums (much worse on others I visit than on this one) as this tends towards a state where every question has been asked and the forum effectively tends towards becoming a static website. People come on here for discussion so you should let them have that.

That happened to me, and I agree. I spent like half an hour clicking and trying to find where my post went. I thought it was something to do with a login problem!
I am beginning to dread the upcoming term. I really wish I was going up earlier, but I couldn't pass up the chance of a sail this weekend :frown:

I'm feeling a bit blue. I'm just so rubbish at socialising. Hopefully tomorrow evening will go better. :frown:

Could I be so rude as to ask one of you to point me towards somebody taking English at Clare? Trying to narrow my college choice down and it'd be lovely to talk to a current student, especially one who has been through the admissions process in the last few years. Thanks in advance.

:console: You're probably trying too hard. Freshers' weeks is always hard - you'll be fine when things settle down.

Would Cambridge consider me if I got 38+ points in IB with the following subjects:

HL Chinese
HL Philosophy/Geography
HL Business & Management

SL Math
SL English
SL Environmental Systems

I felt like that for the first four days or so, and then suddenly got to know people on one freshers event, and we've been out again and done things together since then, and I suddenly feel much better! Don't worry, I'm sure lots of the new MCR feel just the same :hugs:

I'm hoping so. The last two pre-fresher's things I've been to have been sit down type things so there isn't a chance to mingle and the people I've been talking to whilst really nice are really outgoing whilst I'm a bit quiet so kind of end up just sitting there without saying much...

hopefully mingling today at the bbq will be good.

The people I've met from the MCR committee are all really lovely and the College really seems as welcoming and inclusive as it makes itself out to be, though

Two different groups of scum have asked me to go out with them tonight, but expect me to know the Cambridge nightlife well enough to make suggestions - I don't!

What sports are going on (and where - the Leys?), and which are you participating in?

Hmm, are you allowed to call them scum? :hmmm:

I'm playing cricket (indoors, at a school near Addenbrookes) followed by badminton at the Leys. Most of the outdoor games (football, rugby, lacrosse, frisbee) are over in Churchill. I'm then playing rounders (rofl) tomorrow which should be interesting seeing as I only really discovered the game last week.

As for the other sports, there's: tennis, netball, volleyball, croquet ( ), squash. table tennis, waterpolo and badminton.

Cricket starts in just over an hour

What sick and twisted logic lies behind the fact that plugging my phone in to charge causes it to come off vibrate and onto ring?
