I got set an essay on Kant on my second day as a Cambridge student.

Was that at a DoS meeting? Our DoS just took down our options and introduced us to the course - a nice, easy introduction. How distant those times now seem!

I was set my first piece of work pretty much in the first lecture: maths problems, which I am currently doing as a form of procrastination from my essay.

At least he will not know the difference and therefore will not be annoyed with the machines because they're so crap, even compared with your bog-standard home washing machine. I sure am - our machines have 6 programs, the colours program spins way too fast for fragile stuff, the delicates and knits program way too slowly to get enough water out to be able to dry them in a reasonable time. (At nearly £2 a wahing token, you don't really want to do many small loads either...) Oh how I miss my washing machine at home.
Any of the people who actually remember me free on Saturday? I'm coming up for a 65th birthday party (rock on!) so if people want to meet before/after for tea and cake somewhere, that might be nice...

I got set an essay on Kant on my second day as a Cambridge student. My supervisor seems surprisingly relaxed though- he even said we could, if we found the essay too difficult, just come to the supervision with some notes and he "wouldn't mind one bit" .

I've never used a washing machine before in my life and I'm too embarrassed to ask anybody else how to use those massive machines in our college laundry :ninja:

I haven't really put a load in myself-I think that's because my mum didn't trust me with the clothes/her machine though rather than her spoiling me.

I'm quite confident in my ability to do laundry though. It's okay to ask for help because every machine's different-just sound confident and say ''gosh this is crap compared to my washing machine at home could you lend a hand?''.

I just pick a setting at random and hope for the best :o: I've done two loads so far and none of my clothes have become horribly shrunken or disfigured! :p:

Plus Caius laundry is free :yep:
Athena

When will you be around? I recommend the new library cafe(!) for coffee and cake

Party is from 3-4:30ish, so either side of that is good depending on when people are free. And which library cafe?
Urgh, hardware is... um, hard. :erm:

Wrong thread, but yes - it's so they can identify you at interview.

Not technically free. These things that they report are free are always included in fees like the accommodation fees

True, but its free at the point of use, so I don't notice the cost :p:
Its like the caius meal card - I keep spending loads of money at lunch, I'm going to get a bit of a shock when I get my bill in Lent... :sigh:

Clare laundry is very nice apart from the driers which are apparently completely and utterly sodding useless.

I wouldn't know, I have a fold-away clothes horse in my room. On the plus side, it means I don't have to pay to use the drier. On the minus side, it means I have to sleep with my windows open :<

 I am the same with my card. Its so nice not paying at the time but I will probably not be so happy at the end of this term when I get my bill in. Good times all the same.

Cool. Will see if anyone else responds and come up with a time after work tomorrow.

I am the same with the clothes horse. Means a laundry card lasts you for 5 washes instead of much less with having to dry things in the driers.
Our driers didn't seem awfully effective (but then, my drying included a pair of jeans and had come from that delicates wash cycle mentioned earlier... hm) but converting my room to a dry sauna seemed highly effective.
