You are asking this question why? :p:

Good point.

Damn! My favourite colleges don't have relevant studentships. Magdalene had one for South Africans which was all good until it said I had to go back and work there straight after the MPhil :s-smilie:

Bedtime I think. I've got to try and get my sleeping patterns slightly more normal, so I'm going to bed considerably earlier than I did yesterday morning :p:

:ditto: Except that yesterday I actually managed to go to bed 2hrs earlier

So much for 9-5 at the library :shifty:
Apagg
I can only imagine it from chavs writing it as "bbz" on Bebo or Facebook

Not really, I wouldn't spare the time of day for any guy who tried to call me that, however affectionately. You do very occasionally get called babe (and bab, duck, cock [this really is a term of a endearment locally!]) by dozy/older shop assistants and relatives, but that's a bit different.

I see.

Scholarships for international students tend to be like that, which is frustrating...

Really need to find something vaguely time-consuming to do over the holidays, inactivity is getting pretty boring.

Learn a language? Pick up a musical instrument? Get into an exercise routine? Write a computer program?

Yeh, I should have predicted it. Anyway I'd feel a bit cheeky at using money for South Africans when I have a perfectly good British nationality to get by on.

Duck seems universal in the midlands, I quite like it

GB, giving him a piece of your mind could be a dodgy strategy considering you want to get onto Part III. The DoS is probably very ready to believe that you have the potential for a first next year because you had one in first year, so if you simply say you had extenuating circumstances this year but that things are improved now, he could be placated?
We hope?

That's more or less what I'm hoping too. But the aggressive side in me would love to give him a piece of my mind. It's not just this that I dislike his attitude for, it's also his general lack of organisation and his presumption that no one really minds if he doesn't do the things he promises to do.

Chewwy
babe they let anyone on part III.

Good luck to you too. I don't know if you're applying, but if you are, can you afford to be that cocky?

Ooh, annoying applicant question... I have no idea when my PhD starts (I assume at the start of 1st week). So Darwin asked when I wanted accomm. from, and I just went for the earliest date, 27th September. Am I right in thinking this is the week before freshers' week? And if I do move in on the 27th, will anyone be around?

Well, I move in on the 26th, so I hope so. :p:

Edit: 30,000 posts. ****.

Rowing's getting better:

Stroke rate: 22-24
Drag: 39-40
Duration: 30mins
Split: 2:18
Craghyrax, seeing as you're 'in the faculty', have you requested a David Attenborough ticket yet? They're free, just a means of keeping tabs on numbers. Anyway, if you're interested, it's being held on the 12th October. I'm managing seating, so I can put you down for a place right away.

Is that connected to the Darwin festivities? That would be quite cool, thanks. I don't know if I'll be here on the 12th, as I might be hiking or something. If you think it will be easy to give my place to somebody else should I be absent, then yes please. Otherwise don't risk it.

We're independent of the 800th and Darwin events, though we've attracted a huge amount of interest. It's no problem to reserve a seat, especially as the majority of those seats are supposed to go to students (could you PM me your .cam address for the records, please?)

Right...

Anyone got any ideas of 'nice' things to do this weekend? (somewhere around Cambridge)

Was vaguely considering a picnic in Ely, but I'm guessing (cause of weather and all) some other plan will be needed. Also I guess Ely is pretty boring.

The Darwin Exhibition in the Fitz is probably still on.

Well other than the cathedral (which probably is quite impressive) i'm guessing there isn't anything else to do?
