Finnish Archipelago that we decided to call the land at the end of the world (sailing into the east, water brackish [very little salt]). You should be able to get the reference :p:

Voyage of the Dawn Treader?

I swam in it :p: And no idea. Something to do with rain and tides or something.

was your voyage anywhere near Turku? If so, and perhaps even if not, you might be interested in an old nautical chart i have of the islands there. Its quite amazing. And it reminds me of the Earthsea Archipelago, rather than Narnia.

I found the later narnia books really depressing.

I'm childishly sniggering at the article of the day on Wikipedia.

I found, later, the Narnia books really depressing :frown:

What do you mean 'later'?
I never found them depressing and I've probably read them more than ten times.

As in, I read them when I was 10 and thought, "Interesting story", and then went on reading Alastair MacLean and other "adult" authors. When I went to re-read them, I found them pretty boring.

That's boring. Not depressing :p:

The area referred to was indeed ppart of the Turku Archipelago  And It would probably bear some similarities to Earthsea on paper, but when we entered, at sunset it was far too weird for that. I'll post some pictures when I can get round to it.

In other news, I got significantly below the average in all papers. This is a real nuisance and I'm not altogether sure what to do. I'm going to have to think seriously about this.

ukebert, are you considering a change in tripos?

How often does the self-employed Cambridge student get ratted-out for working during term? I'm set on working this year, which I managed last year to an extent ... I work from my laptop, however, which makes it easier. By way of note, if anybody needs any audio transcription done at a low, low price then, you know, just ask for a quote ...

A fair number of people do judging by posts you read here and there on TSR and in Varsity  I would have thought that if you weren't working in Heffers or something, its unlikely anybody would be able to find out :dontknow:

Actually considering the need for audio-transcription within universities I wouldn't be shocked to find myself employed by staff ... anyway, I only have a year left of these occult rules and I can flee.

Do you have any postgraduate ambitions? They don't let MPhil students work either  And it wouldn't surprise me if PhD students were only permitted to do supervising - but I could be wrong there.

I'll be in the Land of the Free (that's A-mer-i-ca), where apparently I can pursue life, possibly property, and happiness also.

I can imagine that, at Cambridge, conditions remain the same throughout postgraduate study as they are at undergraduate. Of course, how they feel about moonlighting (payment for hack-journalism, or a bit of paid commercial archaeology) might be given the nod.
