Dress code is niceish clothes, generally, and gowns. I've had people from other colleges turn up with and without gowns, so it's up to you  I always dress up for formal, as most people will, but I have had friends show up in denim skirts/nice jeans. I'd say smart casual is about as casual as you want to go.

With Peterhouse its generally nice clothes OR gown OR both. You could go in your pyjamas so long as you covered it with a gown.
Yeah, I think that's basically the sentiment at Emma as well, but most people would opt for both  I just love dressing nicely so tend to take advantage of having an excuse to wear nice clothes and heels!

- Matriculation dinner is always a hell of alot better than anything you get after that until your Graduation dinner, practically
- Salmon is great. No complaints there!
- I like the benches. Part of the formal experience :awesome: (we have them at Peterhouse)
- What is your dress code? I expect guests are required to wear smartish clothes but not bring gowns, same as elsewhere? (our porters insist that wearing your college gown to a different college is a discourtesy)

Emmanuel
Formal Hall is provided each evening except Wednesday. On Monday, Friday and Sunday evenings Formal Hall is more traditional with a limit of 3 guests per person, while Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings are open to Clubs and Societies wishing, with the permission of the Senior Tutor, to book functions involving the invitation of a larger number of guests, although individuals with or without guests may also dine on these evenings.

Right so we might need to divide up the guests among us.

I do too barring the heels which I hate. They tend to make me taller than quite a few of the boys too

If we do it on the wrong days, you mean? If we did - say - Saturday, would you just be able to have loads of us round as a sort of society without there being a specific limit?

From what it says on the website (theoretically) we need to get permission from the senior tutor. And there's this extra bit that says it should be prepaid....

Blegh. Hassle.
How many Emma TSRers are there that could bring guests? Three is a wee bit stingy. Peterhouse allow six per person :s-smilie:

There's me, CannedDoor, Zoe and Mel. That makes 12 guests. Anymore may mean getting permission from the senior tutor unless we can drag in more Emma students.

It does say "The Kitchen staff need to know how many people will be attending Formal Hall".

As I said above, I'm not too keen on coming to the formal. Can probably book guests in though if you need me to. Will think about it anyway.
Oh, and I don't think you need permission from the senior tutor, just get in touch with Francois if you want to book guests in that aren't actually linked to an account. It costs an awful lot more though. Also, the prices for guests are staggered, so your first guest is about £9, second is £11ish, 3rd is £13ish perhaps. Something you might want to think about.

Why? You haven't really explained. Work? Or are you just less keen on TSR meetage this year?
I think we should do Peterhouse!

I have no objection if people prefer this.

Its only that I'd like to try formals at different colleges, but I can see that it may be less practical. Oh yeh - and getting ukebert may be a problem

Still I think that we can get a 'permit'. So if you guys decide you prefer Peterhouse, I'll check that out. I have to see the Senior Tutor anyway.

I have various quite personal reasons (it sounds weird that TSR could have personal reasons related to it, but trust me, they exist!) that would cause quite a difficult situation if I were to go to a formal, and are the reason that I stopped posting almost completely over the summer (bet none of you noticed :p:). I basically just want to keep my TSR usage quite low key this year.

It is honestly nothing against you guys  Sorry!!

Oh right. No worries. I was just being nosey, that's all.

That's okay! I would go into more detail to clarify, but I don't want the whole world to be able to see it!

I'd prefer a formal where I don't have to wear a gown.

Honestly I look ridiculous and more rotund than I am already in mine.

You just realised?

Maybe you should switch back to SPS. :p:
