Friend meeting me in 15mins. Now would be a good time to get off of the computer and get changed :flute:

In other news, I'm pissed off at Maplin again. Mainly because I don't like XP. I miss my laptop and my Vista, and specifically the little thermometer widget on my desktop

Is it bad that I can't tell the difference between XP and vista? :o:

Also what's this thermometer widget?

Is it bad that I can't tell the difference between XP and vista? :o: You would, easily. Windows XP has everything in annoying playschool colours like bright blue, green and red. Windows Vista goes for the opposite effect and has transclucent boxes and backgrounds, so that everything looks neutral.

Vista has something called a 'sidebar', which is a column on the right hand side of your screen which shows up if you hover your mouse over it. You can put accessories onto your side bar which you download from the internet or select from a basic set of options. One of these is a widget which shows you the current temperature outside. I usually glance at it when choosing what clothes to wear for the day. Very useful.
I only just woke up. But then again, I couldn't sleep till 5. :lolwut:

Well, it isn't.

Craggy, a short term fix to your widget problem could be this which requires Google Desktop to be installed.

Wait, wtf? How does it know what temperature it is outside? Nobody does weather updates that detailed in the UK, do they?

I think she just meant the general city weather thing...

I assume that it's tied into regional Met Office data ...

You can get current weather updates fairly regularly (ie hourly or just whenever the deviation is judged sufficiently significant) if you're near a weather station (which there often is at a large industrial complex or an airport). Sadly, the BBC Weather website suggests that the nearest station to Cambridge is about 10 miles away.
One of the few things I do like about vista is the widgets, especially the post it notes. The temperature one is better if you pull it out of the sidebar and put it in the middle though- then it gives you the precipitation forecast as well. Mind you, I generally have the internet and numerous word documents open constantly and don't even look at my desktop. Which is especially sad as it has a photo of the monsterrat volcano on it...

Just went to one of those 'CAMbassador' interviews, and they're only taking one in four of us :afraid: Oh well. No point thinking about it now, but it was a wee bit nervewracking. We had to answer questions in a group and then do a group presentation.

As the others said.. its very crude. Tends to only change a few times a day.
I'm really annoyed at the google widget, though, because the nearest reading it will give me is Peterborough, whereas the old one I had did Cambridge. Perhaps I need to search download a different one.

Whoah!
I like the sidebar because it has a rotating slideshow of my travelling pictures on it. Which is nice.

Ok I've had 26 responses to the poll now, we can begin to talk about planning the formal, and once we've finalised everything I'll create a group event on facebook.

First step: Can an Emmanuelite tell me how many active Emma TSR students who may be willing to help get tickets for this. Also Saturday is looking to be the most popular day, so what were the Emma arrangements for Saturday formals again?

Not if you change the XP colour scheme to silver, so that everything looks neutral.

I already did. Hence my exclamation of delight two days ago.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I don't think I could bear having the default colour scheme.
