I worked til very late (early?) last night/this morning so when I woke up in time for the lecture still tired I just decided sod it, I'd rather sleep in my bed.
I have 1/3 of the books on my reading list gerrrrrrrr
You are lucky for getting a reading list . We tend to be given general lists, yet rarely a specific list for a particular supervision. As such I tend to work on a hit-and-miss approach. Archaeology likes to do everything off the cuff. I think in a malevolent way we are being taught independent research ...
Gah! Maplin have just come up with a sophisticated story to try and get out of fixing my laptop. They got a technician to go to the store. They tested my computer with two different power supplies, and apparently my computer destroyed both supplies. They said they found no damage to the DC socket, and said they didn't test my battery to see if anything was wrong with it They said that they found that the circuit board was damaged, and then suggested that my 'damaged laptop' was the cause of all the power supplies blowing up randomly They then said that there was some sign that my laptop had been opened, and there were scratches inside. I reminded them that the first time my laptop every got opened was after the incident with the power cable when I went to the computing officer and got him to take out my hard drive and extract data off of it So their conclusion is that I'll need a new laptop in all likelihood, and that my laptop was already damaged internally before the incidence which caused it to reject the new power cable I bought off of them. They also tried to say that keeping my laptop plugged in constantly would damage the battery, but then my battery was working fine before the incident. There was no sign of battery life decreasing, and I could frequently use it without power for 2.5hrs. Also if there was all this random circuit damage PRIOR to the incident, then why was everything all working wonderfully? It just doesn't add up, and when I asked them a few probing questions, they just gave me loads of technical babble about what their technician found and didn't adequately explain anything. I've asked them to make a copy of his report, which apparently they weren't automatically going to do
I really have no idea what to do. I don't know if my insurance will consider this an 'accident', and I have no idea how to go about reporting them I'm going to ask advice at the DSA, CUSU and my Senior Tutor on Monday.

You wouldn't be able to be uber amazing and get a couple of books out the PPS library for me would you?
At some point, sure, but not today. It closes at 1 on Saturdays too.
Supermerp
It's just because I'd made separate posts several times in quick succession
These make my morning, groggy as it is, a slightly better experience.
At first I thought the top image was a warning against stealing artefacts. This is quite a severe crime in Turkey, more so than anywhere else I can think of.
Glad to hear it
The top image is partly a warning. A lot of the cartoons were a) showing how much archeology there was in Turkey (people fishing and brining up pillars, people building garden sheds out of classical temples, that kind of thing) b) against stealing artefacts (that one and similar, crying statues, one rather nice one which was a mosaic that was leaking out of an hourglass, which for some reason I didn't take a picture of) or funny things about archeology in general (like the last one).

This sounds currently more fun than my chosen dissertation. Sigh. Well, I've just finished the proposal-outline, and the synopsis (with attendant assumptive conclusions).

They may just be lying. Or your laptop might actually have a short circuit [or something, I dunno] inside like they say that is causing it to eat power supplies. I thought this all started when your original power supply died? Which lends a bit of credence to that idea.
Lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries can only be charged a few hundred times before they start to 'wear out' and stop storing charge well. So it is true that running your laptop plugged in a lot of the time can be 'bad' for it in that it will shorten the battery life eventually (as you are repeatedly charging the batteries by a small amount) and that using it on battery power, letting it run right out, and then charging it right back up all in one go would be better..... but who actually does that? You'll likely replace the laptop before the batteries finally die anyway, and even if not can just buy a replacement battery pack.
plus, there is a rather exciting looking sweet shop opening on the corner next to Round Church. Yay!
I'm guessing that's the one near John's? I've walked past it so many times in the last couple of weeks, the guys were working in there at 11pm the other night Looks amazing though...

Skipping another lecture because I don't want to go out in the rain
Such a bad excuse! (I snooze-buttoned my way through Maths this morning...)
I can't decide what to do tonight. A load of people are going to Queens', but I don't know if I cba to dress up and go out...Bought "The Last House on the Left" earlier, and I have some trick-or-treat style sweets...might just have a really childish Halloween.
I thought this was yesterday, for some reason ... I was in the bar last night and I'm sure it was mentioned as being on that day. How odd.
Ukebert, could I have permission to use those photos? I'm building a website at the moment, a compendium of archaeological references from all sorts of sources, and I think museum cartoons would be a good idea.

It's ok don't worry I'll be able to get them on Monday if I still think I need them, I might try and write my essay with what I've got. Seeing as I read at ridiculously slow rate any way I think that maybe I'll have to go with what I've got.
