Cindies was great tonight... though tomorrow morning when I am up for my 9am lecture it might not seem such a good idea. Ah well

you should've come with us to get drunk at the union bar.

Pfft, after a formal swap on a Wednesday Cindies is the only option. Also sadly for me getting pissed anywhere out here is expensive :frown:

5 double whisky and mixers for £10.

10 doubles for £20 should be more than enough to get you absolutely smashed....

What whiskey but? Some whiskey isn't actually that great. Anyways I think sleep is an idea if I am to get up tomorrow morning :p:

So if some people react negatively to it and some people react well to it that makes it acceptable? I'd say that the fact that some people react negatively to it should mean that it shouldn't be used, even if overall more people react well than badly (which is debateable). Humans aren't numbers, you can'tdeal with averages. It may be good for the majority, but being unpleasant for the minority isn't acceptable.

It depends what viewpoint you take - by utilitarianism (I think), you can do that.

I don't think that it's a big ask to ensure that the welfare of every single student is considered, particularly in a college setting and particularly in a college as small as Peterhouse. The net effect is irrelevant here - perhaps if you were dealing with a group of students as big as that in Manchester you could consider the net effect, but one of the main advantages of the college system, as far as I'm concerned, is that as part of a much smaller pool of students your individual needs can and should be considered. It seems ludicrous to consider the net effect of such a small group.

You could take that very far and suggest, for instance, that no student should make any noise whatsoever in their room as it may in some way detriment the experience of their neighbours to a very small degree. The majority of decisions in a college will result in some people losing out.

Sorry for not letting this go, I think I'm feeling very welfarey this week :p: I'm getting all motivated for Access things and have been emphasising the welfare aspect of colleges as something fantastically positive, but a situation like this just seems to completely undermine it...

It's fine.

I could make a dig at economists now but I won't :p:

That was an implicit dig. :p:

Ooh, you were there. As was I. :yep: It was OK but not as cheesy as it should be for a Wednesday night. :nah:

You could, but the point is that I'm not really taking it far... I think that anyone would agree that the above example isn't really practical, but asking for senior members of a college not to bully their students isn't really quite such a stretch :p:

Thanks for the rep, whoever it was
I thought I'd go to bed early and get up early. Neither happened. Before, I didn't understand how sleep was such a big part of camchat discussion, but seriously... blarrrrrgh.
Sleep! I haven't had enough. Trying to occassionaly go to be after 11pm without eating into getting up in the mornings isn't working for me. Why do I need so much sleep compared to everyone else?!
Would anyone here like to be called a dick?

8am is most definitely early.
Woken by the splash-thump of passing rowing boats at 6:40 this morning, oh how we've missed it! And then, just to get my day off to a good start, I was accosted by an evangelical Christian on the way to work who insisted I read a leaflet about how the world is about to end. Oh joy.

Looking for ward to the fireworks tonight though! Anyone going? The Duck is going to be moored just down from the Fort St George, if anyone wants to pop by!

Any whiskey? Are you sure? Last time I was there double spirits and coke was £1.30 and yet they wouldn't let me get double JD and coke for that price! Is this a regular deal?

Sure was. First night I could actually be bothered waiting in the queue so I am not sure how cheesy it normally is, but still a good night. I noticed a lot of the drinking societies were out last night also
I went to sleep for 2 hours on the library floor last night. I am very proud of this.
...
Grrr, the SPS Society are telling me I'm not a member when I paid for membership in Lent term last year
You know how I asked for suggestions about edible gifts to bring home for family/friends at the weekend, and Craggy/others suggested Fitzbillies?

Yeah, well, I'm now sitting in my room writing an essay with 8 chelsea buns just sitting there. This is absolute TORTURE. RELIEVE ME OF THIS PAIN!!1!

Stuffs to get your attention

I have a dictaphone you could borrow if you like...?

****

I have a Cambridge interview, all over again. Only it's not just an interview, it's an interview with a panel, presentation, discussion leading, reading aloud, a brief exam, a lesson observation........... far more stuff to do!

But, on the other hand, I've worked out how I'm going to get the bottom-set Year 10 group I'm teaching on Monday to understand Hyperinflation, and my mentor reckons my plan will work and get them understanding it. Plus he's given me a very good simple explanation to use to help get them to understand it, so that's also good

If you eat them they can't tempt you any more.

Problem solved.
