Leala: perhaps email the CUSU welfare officer to see if they can offer any assistance.

I've just sent off the email, but at the moment it's looking very doubtful since Saturday 14 November is not available for booking via the online system.

Well thankyou for taking the time to help anyway! I'll have a look in the book at 6 to see if Peterhouse is available for that night. Although worryingly I think we need to see the Senior Tutor for a 'permit' to book that many people in. I might be able to get *most* of us in if ukebert and I both go. We'd each have 6 guests so that would be 14 out of 18 or so covered, which might save the evening from getting booked out over the weekend while I wait to see the ST.

Standby - ukebert :poke:

KT: Thanks for the directions. I might be popping in for a birthday party next week. We shall see..
I've had a bit of an email conversation with her but I didn't know they could get involved in any way...

I just had the best singing lesson ever :woo:

Standing by

I'm currently writing my response to the email. I'll post it up here first. At the moment I've decided to go for "ridiculously detailed and polite", which I thought was better than "curt and as rude as they were to me".

It is involving me having to look through past CamChat stuff to get my dates right. I still have my timetables for the few weeks before the exams but they are at home :>.<:
Selwyn Snowball tickets start selling in a few hours  Anyone been to one before?

Ok I'm going over to hall now. If the evening's free I'll quickly buy 7 tickets and post on here so that ukebert can do the same
ukebert
:biggrin:If I'm unsuccessful we'll reschedule. What does Emma look like for the Sunday, guys?

Peterhouse is completely free for Sat 14th. I've written down my name plus 6 guests, and ukebert's name plus 6 guests. Tomorrow I will try to get permission from tutorial for the additional five.

Ok Camchatters. There are 19 confirmed guests on the facebook event. That is the number of tickets I am going to acquire. If you are planning to come but you aren't on the facebook group and haven't RSVPd on the facebook invite, then you need to PM me right away or you will miss out!

Does this solution suit you?
Awesome. So I don't need to walk to Hall in the rain then? :p:

Shameless.
Bah. I am not good at this sort of thing. This is my response to the email as required. I'm not sure that it is what they are looking for. Haven't sent it yet.

Uke, I'd edit out any names you may or nay not have mentioned there.
You write really fluently I'm really, really bad a letters. i don't even know the proper way to address a supervisor :s-smilie:.
Luckily I can write essays . I've *almost* finished one on mediaeval Europe, which leave almost all weekend free for Fordism .
Done

Mate, your first line read, at least to me, as a quite subtle punch in the face .

Sat, 14/11/09 Dinner (Formal Hall ) Spaces: 0 :frown: :frown: :frown:

That's what it says on the website. The Sunday is not up yet.

I'm fine with Peterhouse. Also, where's Friends of Peterhouse Theatre? Going to see A Man for All Seasons there tomorrow :woo:

Yeah your first line sounds incredibly sarcastic :p:

Also, I thought the point of this reply was to have a go at them for being a bunch of *****, not to explain in excruciating detail every little excuse you could come up with for ******* your exams up...

I dunno, maybe I am misunderstanding, but if you want to write something so utterly craven why didn't you go to the meeting and just accept their ********** face to face in the first place?

I can tell you that it's most certainly not what they're looking for; in fact, it might even be mildly shocking. Though well written, I think they would find your response rather moany. Moreover, I didn't see any commitment to even attempt to improve your result this year, nor better (from their point of view) balance your academic studies with your numerous and clearly time-consuming extra-curricular activities. I would be very unimpressed with your allusion to "psychological health" as a reason for not doing as much work as you should have, as well as the implicit blame you've put on supervisors, lectures and the course. Your whole year has the same lectures, those in your college probably have the same supervisors, and you should have researched the course before choosing to apply and then accept a place here.

Sorry if that was harsh, but I'm just warning you of their likely reaction.

But it's none of their business how he chooses to balance his work with extra-curricular activities. If he wants to engage in those instead of a portion of his work time then that (should) be up to him. In the end it's his degree. I think Peterhouse's ultimate motive is more results on paper and statistics rather than the good of their individual students, and that is frankly despicable.

Exactly. So why is he telling them all that stuff in the first place?

Either it's unnecessary to tell them at all, in which case the email is redundant, or it's right to tell them but as alex says they're not going to be at all impressed 'cos it's basically just a big bit of whinging.

Either way, it seems like a very bad move.
Semi-off topic:

Is this correct grammar in England? I see this sort of thing all over TSR.

It is refreshing to see that college are so concerned with the welfare of their students.

In US English we say "College is..." and "Colleges are.."
