Well said, I was trying to find a way to say something very similar.

The other day I was initially upset that some people i know didn't invite me on their 'girls' night out', but then I realised that I would in fact not enjoy such an event in the slightest. Clubs bore me, even with close friends, as there is no way to actually talk to people!

Hah - glad you relate. Although I think my sombriety gets a bit overbearing for Ftb sometimes

He does like to make light of things, but he shares our lack of enjoyment of clubs!
Ill. Slept through 2 lectures and a supervision this morning, feeling slightly better for it.

The saga continues. Insurance finally got in touch, and they're getting one of their companies to examine my laptop and decide whether it needs repairing or replacing

I agree. When I go out people tell me I am mad with the way I carry on, either that or they ask me if I am drunk (sadly not so cos its dear to get drunk around here). I just think its a bit of fun, and you may as well have a laugh when you are out. So what if you look like a prat...

an example of people wandering what I am doing, but I am really just trying to have a laugh: getting the YMCA played when I was out and unashamedly dancing to it

This annoys me with how people are not willing to look even slightly silly at times just to have a laugh

Like Craggy said, everyone's different, and I'm sure there are people you know back home who'd be like that...But I guess at home you socialise with people who enjoy the same things as you, and here you maybe haven't had a chance to find people who do.

We should go to Cindies sometime. YMCA is amazing  People were shocked to find out I spent my first (and as of yet, only) Cindies excursion pretty much sober...
About craic/banter: I agree, most people here seem a lot more reserved than my mates back home, but I think that's mostly just because nobody knows each other here yet as well as they know their mates at home. Kind of expect to miss the 'banter' for the first term or so til you find a crowd of people you actually have a lot in common with.

This year I've had about £2500 altogether from a Helena Kennedy Bursary, my loan and my grant. However, I've spent over £1200 on accommodation and other things they charged me for, then it's cost me a fortune in food which I've had delivered (I eat a lot plus milk and egg free things cost a lot). Then I've had to pay train fares and bus fares plus mobile phone bills :s-smilie: Basically I would still have some left if I finished term but if I go home what I've got left won't last long until I find some other money. This isn't even counting the money I spent on books before coming here...

It's possible to get by without buying any books, as well as train fares and bus fares, if money is an issue.

I wasn't saying I didn't-the only difference is other people can actually eat food in hall. I had to pay about £170 on my meal card have hardly used any and had to pay over that amount in order to cook for myself.

As already mentioned, you shouldn't have to pay that much on your meal card in your situation. Or alternately, sell the value on it to someone else?

That would make sense. I have yet to taste a vodka that tasted nice, even in a mixer compared to other spirits.

Smirnoff or Absolut are good.

Thats fair enough. Some people here are good craic, but others take everything I say so seriously. Half the fun is saying things seriously and seeing how they react, but they never take to kindly to it after I say I was only joking. They probably think I am a dick doing that constantly to them, but thats the way the majority of us carry on at home.

Well, you're a long way from home. :p:

I have added you now

And I have accepted your request.

Everyone's different - said people are probably annoyed at how you are wiling to look slightly silly at times. Personally I think there's a time and a place for both, and I have no qualms with being more than slightly silly on nights out. :o:

You can't just assume that everybody enjoys the same thing as you. We're all wired differently. I probably come across as the most serious person you'll ever meet, but that doesn't mean that I don't know how to have fun. Its just that 'fun' is not a concrete category with distinct properties. What I love doing probably seems really boring to other people.
Likewise, if I were to go with you on a night out, letting loose and doing silly stuff would in no way be enjoyable or appealing to me. I am probably the least self conscious person on this thread. I don't give a rat's arse what people think of me, my opinions or my behaviour, by and large (unless I unintentionally cause unecessary damage, of course) - so not going along with wild or crazy things doesn't have to mean self consciousness or overt conventionality. In my case it just bores me senseless! I have the most fun when I'm talking about interesting things and my mind is engaged. Activities which don't have any analytical or thought pertaining significance are a complete switch off to me.

That shouldn't irritate people. We're all different. Likewise I try not to be irritated by people who seem to value ideas and discussion so little.

Sorry I think I came across wrongly there. What I meant was that I am used to messing about and doing some silly stuff with all my friends for a laugh and am missing that. The majority of people at home usually go out and have a bit of craic in clubs messing about, often by making themselves look like a fool. I have found it hard to come across people like this so far here, though I am sure there are people who are up for a good laugh by fooling about in a club.

I am aware everyone enjoys different things and have different perceptions of fun, but I had put my views across incorrectly.

I was up all night playing it (having bought it late last night when I made an impromptu trip to Tesco for some milk.) Had to stop at 0730 as I had an 0800 ward round. I can see myself playing it non-stop even without access to multiplayer for the time being as the coop spec ops missions are pretty damned awesome.

Yeah I know, its probably week 5 blues... I just miss these sort of things from home.

I'm already going to be at Cindies on Wednesday post-friends'-birthdays-formal, so maybe Tuesday if you want to do it next week? We could meet up in someone's room first for pre-drinks (much cheaper than buying drinks while out), and/or go Formal somewhere.

I ended up drinking VK for the first time in my life. I feel so ashamed, but what option did I have considering the prices? I did have 2 jaegerbombs, with little bomb :p: and a double SoCo and coke

I know, I am starting to miss certain aspects of home with the food etc

Yeah I know, I just put my views across wrongly. I don't see why they would care if I look silly? :s-smilie: I feel looking a bit silly when you are out is just a bit of fun, even if I am not drinking... just a bit of craic to be honest.

Next Tuesday or Wednesday?

If we are going to Formal can it please not be at Trinity... any formal swap that most of us go to is always at Trinity as colleges want to go to our Formal.

Next Tuesday seems good for me, and the pre-drinks is a good idea as it is far too expensive to drink out. I can also get us all tickets for tuesday if we were going so we can skip the queue.

How does that suit everyone?

 Well played. How did you manage on your ward round after that? How good is it compared to the last one?
For the person who could be a troll or not.

If you had read the whole thread you would see that I had arranged to meet up with the caterers via email 2 weeks ago. They have not responded. Maybe they should be more proactive and you should read more closely.

On a more positive note, thanks to the TSRian who came to visit

It's pretty damned good, but some of the levels are a little unnerving
and the story line a little lame. The game play however is awesome, even if they've got rid of the lean function, and the graphics are pretty kick arse too. They've introduced a new co-op Special Ops game mode where you get to do various challenges (like race snow mobiles, defend a building, attack a stronghold etc.) which are addictive and good fun. The campaign mode is inevitably short (I'm about 2/3 of the way through after 4 hours of campaign mode, and I'm hardly the best FPS gamer out there...)

I can't wait to test out this badboy online when I'm back in Cambridge this weekend, but that'll mean forking out for another couple of months of XBox Live.... hmm

Sorry...just trying to help. It's a bit much to expect people to read 318 pages, most of which is completely unrelated, before responding to something.

Homerton staff are generally quite useless though; I'd say just keep pestering them until they do respond to you.
