I've just missed dinner in order to learn the ABC system of notation, which is really easy and I don't know why I didn't learn it ages ago. I've also just matched three Canadian tunes together, which my computer is now playing to me so that I can remember them.

Plus my supervisor failed to turn up to my supervision, which was nice.

Aaaahhh.....I don't think I wanna perform at the Open Mic anymore. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but talking to people, it sounds like everyone is so good at everything, and I don't want to embarrass myself. Hmmm.

Now to crack on with this ice and ocean cores essay.

I say go for it! You've got nothing to lose and I'm sure you're better than you give yourself credit for. What kind of stuff were/are you thinking of performing? I might perform at your Downing one next week.

(Oh yeah - sorry to Blaah Blaah and sonofdot, but I don't think I'll be playing Caius Open Mic tonight. I've got some time off and I kind of feel more in the mood for a quiet night in with a (non-history) book. Make sure you tell me about the next one, though, and I hope you have a good time. )

 I'll probably be going to the Downing one too, so you better play at that! :yep:

I want to do something, and I'm honestly not just being modest, but I'm really not that good. I was planning to do a cover of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4Igb5Yors4, but it seems like there will be some amazing acoustic players there too, and I don't really feel comfortable at the minute. I dunno, I keep thinking to myself "don't be a wuss, it'll be fun", but I'm undecided.
I was up for doing an awful pop song medley (think Toxic, My Humps .etc) but I can't get anyone to sing, and I haven't sung for years.

Ah man, it would be awesome to see you perform again. I hope Theo comes too.

I think I was number 3. I should probably remember there being someone called Alex, but then I should probably remember what number I was.

I think I was number 4 - was that the one where we waited outside for ages for someone to get the key?

I would sing, but you wouldn't want me to.

I promise you, you'd be better than I would ever be. Plus, that stuff would be more for laughs than doing it seriously, so it would sound better with someone who wasn't a great singer.
If you're genuinely up for it though, that would be frickin awesome.
It's a shame ... but my balalaika is coming to meet me tomorrow, just too late :frown:.

I'd even got about five bars of Aleksei Arkhipovskii's improvised stuff down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JqeSU7lSLE. That is, before my fingers collapse.

I can't tell you just how amazing that is.

I've always wanted a Balalaika, ever since reading Trubloff when tiny.

I never felt that challenged when playing guitar. You want to play the balalaika like a guitar, at least your muscle memory does, but you just have to break your grip, timing, everything, into new shapes. Somehow, however, he manages to play it as if weren't even there. I'm stupidly jealous.

It's the perfect melancholic, nighttime instrument.

In return to your video of someone playing amazingly on your instrument, here is mine :p:

Yes.

If Clare 2nds aren't a second team I don't know what Queen's 3rds are: we were very close to losing to them and we beat Clare comfortably.

Didn't you lose to some schoolchildren a while ago, though?

I have discovered that I work best on weekday afternoons. This is problematic as I have exactly no weekday afternoons free.

Hahaha, I almost posted this in reply to your one on Facebook.

Great minds

It was probably good you didn't turn up in the end, everyone else performing would have absolutely blown you away :awesome:

Nobody was there... :erm:
I'm having my first ganas de learn French ever listening to a really pretty song

And happily ignoring the eternal essays, although having fun reading about the Marxist opinions on war and contemplating what I'm going to buy on my Tesco shop later

Yes.

In that case I was the first Pembroke person there.

I'm not looking forward to playing them now.

When is it, what songs would I be singing, and do you have the sheet music? I may actually be up for it, but seriously you don't know how bad I am - "wasn't a great singer" would be a very generous assessment, "is worse than mediocre" would probably be more accurate. :sadnod:

Haha, I just noticed I slipped into Spanish halfway through that sentence. Although there is no good English way of saying 'tengo ganas de' so never mind :p:

It's this
I don't know what it would take to get me interested enough in current European politics to get me to even remember which acronym goes with which party in France or Germany. I can cope with the Spanish ones, as long we don't go too far back... Maybe I need to put funny voices to them. That helps with lots of my literature. Ho hum~
