GOsh, but I do rather enjoy punting, showing off my l33t skillz.

One of these days I'm gonna torture you by taking you punting and not letting you punt :p:

I would be awesome at punting on a circular river  I just can't get the hang of pushing off straight.

My hands are twitching and temperature rising, just at the thought ....

Stand sideways on the edge of the punt, and drop the pole in as close to the edge of the punt, or at a very slight angle behind and in the middle of the stern.

Then, like with rowing, you have to accelerate smoothly by leaning (not hanging) the weight, finish off with the arms, and have a clean extraction at the finish!

I've had enough visitors to get quite good at it now. I made it from Mill lane Scudamores to Magdalene bridge, back, around the base of Darwin college and back to mooring in 40mins. And that was without realising I went so fast :p: I was really stiff after that though...

Last time I went punting, one of my friends managed to turn us round in a semicircle completely accidentally.

I think the skill is in not doing that :p:

Are you sure it was her, rather than the current/momentum/the bank or punt your punt crashed into? :p:

Right. I think that I have packed. I'm sure I'm missing something important, my enormous rucksack, whilst full, is suspiciously light.

I'm off tomorrow morning. Can't wait to get into the hills.

I'm not allowed a pink laptop, this makes me sad :frown: But I don't know that I can complain much as it's free...

You realise they probably have a giant warehouse filled with identical laptops to give away to people. None of which are pink :p:

You could sell your DSA computer and buy a pink one. As long as you're willing to forfeit the coverage they give you, then there's no problem. If Caius is like Peterhouse your college IT dept can see to any problems you have with it.

Is this DSA as in disabled students allowance? I was given a laptop which *supposedly* had to be a certain kind, but when I enquired they said it could be a different one as long as it cost the same or I paid the difference. I don't know how much it depends on your LEA or whatever though.
