I am very jealous of anyone that can sleep through a lecture - our classes are so small that I'm sure the lecturer would notice :o:

It's ok I've fallen asleep in a 1 to 1, Now to Homerton!!!

Aww, are you feeling better now? I hope your DOS doesn't give you a hard time, it's not your fault you're ill. I have some health probs and my DoS just told me 'if you need to rest, then rest', which was lovely.

Oooh, Russia sounds fun. I'm probably going to study in Spain but I didn't get an ERASMUS place, which is kind of annoying.

Ok, I think I might know who you are (but I swear I'm not a creepy stalker!). If it helps, I'm the one who got told off and made to sit at the front for being late to an Sp4 lecture last week  (I don't like mornings very much!)

Yes, all better now thankfully! I had what everyone is now insisting was probably swine flu which took me out for two weeks :frown: I'm sure my DoS will be fine with it really, he's quite understanding.

Ooh, study, I'll be working hopefully! Shame about the Erasmus place... But there are other ways of doing it aren't there?

Haha, I didn't make the morning Sp4 lecture last week... I don't like mornings either!

You sound to have a very good working strategy - I'm hoping that I'll get more into the flow of things next term!

Unfortunately my classes are also incredibly small. My Spanish lectures have between five and fifteen people in them, and my Russian ones have about 25, and my other classes are all around fifteen. But I manage to fall asleep anyway :p:
Just had the most disastrous supervision I could ever imagine... now have the awful feeling I shouldn't be here :sadnod:

My supervision was at 7.45am. I woke up at 7.45am because my alarm never went off. I got dressed and literally ran to supervision so I was 10mins late. Then because of how tired I was I literally blanked at just about everything that was asked of me... even getting the orientation of the fibula wrong

My supervisor seemed to catch on and never really asked me much for the rest of the supervision. I feel so stupid now

You had a supervision at 0745? My God. Isn't that against the Human Rights Act or something  I wouldn't have agreed to one at that time under any circumstances.

And don't worry about that. If you are tired the supervisions do go horrendously badly. And sometimes even if you're wide awake :p: Best thing I've found is to swallow your pride and ask stupid questions, because at least that way you get something out of it, whereas otherwise they say things like "And obviously by blah, which you did last year, the somethingorother becomes thingummy and so we can say whatsit", when you can't recall ever hearing about blah, can't remember what somethingorother is because you had an interesting thought about something else and drifted off for a few minutes, can't remember what thingummy means and fail to grasp the significance of whatsit.

:o:

Ceilidh Band was fun last night. I am now shattered and have incomprehensible amount of stuff to do before I go sailing this afternoon.
How can I get to Corfield Court (St John's)? Wikipedia & Google Maps aren't helping much, and I'm not going to have a chance to investigate before my supervision there.

I think that might be the gated court just off All Saint's Passage...You know where the Arts and Crafts market is on Saturdays? There's a big gate and an intercom pad on one side of it, I think that could be Corfield Court (from what the John's website describes...)

Have a look at the map of the college on the college website? Sorry I can't help.

Exactly. If I was up at 7:45 I literally wouldn't be able to function. So if they set a stupid time then they're going to have to get used to students not being able to function. I used to have to open the Wetherspoons kitchens at 7am, and generally people I was working with got used to not risking speaking to me while I went around on autopilot putting everything together

Aye, that happens to her from time to time, but hasn't for a while. She was pretty upset about losing control like that :s-smilie:

Thanks, I just felt so, so bad. I felt really guilty, as if I was wasting my supervisors time. I apologised for being late as I had only just woke up. Strange thing is he gave me back my essay and said it was perfect :o: But really couldn't imagine a supervision going any worse than that.

Thanks. At that time of the morning I really am on autopilot as well, and when I had to get up for school at 7am my parents and friends knew not to bother trying to have a proper conversation with me until 9am. I still feel really stupid but :frown:

I've now slept right through three supervisions here. And all of them were with more important supervisors. One was my DoS, the next was a course director who took time out to supervise me for a research project, and the next was one of our main lecturers. (As in, I failed to wake up for the alarm on these occasions) So I know exactly how you feel. But yeh, stuff like that hasn't got anything to do with your intellectual ability, its just managing life stuff. And everybody makes mistakes.

Yeh, we guessed from the behaviour of the other band members that it wasn't too serious. What kind of condition does she have?

Is this 0745 thing a regular occurrence? If so then you should really talk to him and get him to rearrange it. It's your education, you should have an input into when these things should be, as if you are too tired to make the most of it then you aren't just wasting his time, you're wasting your own, which is more important.

I have problems with 9am lectures, as I'm barely conscious before 10 no matter when I wake up :o: Unless I've had more than 9 hours sleep, which very rarely happens.

Ooh, that is lovely. I try to only buy coats (and indeed all clothes apart from underwear etc) from charity shops. However, I am not averse to investing in coats -I have ans £80 one that my mum bought me when I was 18 (6 years ago ) that I still wear every winter

The Peterhouse medics tend to have their supervisions at about 5-6 or something. Maybe he can make that instead.

I really wish I could've made it. Thursdays are my worst day of the week, generally, so by 8 I'm always looking forward to it, but my 6:30 to 8:30 activity ended up going an hour later for various reasons, mostly lack of time, and by then... And next week is the bestest event of the whole year but I'm having linguist bonding time, which will also be amazing. It's so good there being so much out there to do, just annoying when they happen simultaneously.
